MATHEW RYAN (Brighton and Hove Albion, England)

Age: 26

Cap Number: 555

Previous Clubs: Blacktown City, Central Coast Mariners, Club Brugge, Valencia, KRC Genk

The story of his season:

As far as first seasons go in such a massive competition like the Premier League, Ryan’s maiden campaign was a huge success.

The newly-promoted Seagulls were many experts’ favourites to go straight back down but with Ryan in goal they secured safety with weeks to spare.

With 10 clean sheets across his 38 league appearances, Ryan made an incredible 124 saves (3.3 per game) which saw him rank third in the entire Premier League.

Not only was Ryan third for saves, he was also ranked third in the Premier League for overperforming on 'Expected Goals'.

Ryan was crucial for his team, pulling off two penalties saves – including a season-defining one in stoppage time stop to deny Stoke City’s Charlie Adam.

He also made a fine second-half save in the 2-1 home win over Arsenal, which took them to 34 points and then kept a clean sheet against Manchester United which secured their top-flight status.
