Joeys beat Brunei Darussalam but bow out of 2019 AFF U-15 Championship

The Joeys registered an impressive 4-0 win over Brunei Darussalam but have missed out on a 2019 AFF U-15 Championship Semi Final berth after a last-minute own goal between Group B rivals Malaysia and Thailand.

Australia required a heavy defeat from the fixture between both Southeast Asian nations to secure passage into the final four, but a stoppage-time own goal from Thailand’s Sittha Boonlha saw scores finish 1-1 and hand Malaysia and Thailand first and second spot respectively with 11 points each.

Trevor Morgan’s side finished third on 10 points from their five matches with three wins, one draw and just the solitary defeat.

The Joeys were on the attack from the opening whistle and an early spell of dominance was rewarded on 19 minutes as Sydney FC’s Aiden Mostofi was on hand to tap in from close range.

Australia doubled the advantage just after the half-hour mark through another well-constructed team move which was clinically dispatched by Sebastian Gomez of Perth Glory.

South Australian attacker Bernardo Oliveira added a third early in the second stanza and Mostofi clinched his second on 64 minutes to complete the scoring.
