Aussies abroad: Caltex Socceroos hopefuls in action overnight

Callum Elder started for Wigan Athletic while Ken Dougall's Sparta won in Holland as a number of Australians got on the park overnight.

While Wigan's FA Cup run has been sparkling, it was back to the grind of league action overnight for Elder's side.

The 23-year-old Aussie picked up a yellow card in the 2-2 draw with Blackburn in League One at Ewood Park.

However, a number of Aussies had their games cancelled due to extreme weather conditions. This included Mile Jedinak at Villa, Massimo Luongo at QPR and Jackson Irvine with Hull City.

Additionally, in League One, Brad Inman and play-off hopefuls Peterborough United had their match at second-placed Shrewsbury postponed.

Meanwhile, Caltex Socceroo striker Tomi Juric was subbed off in the final few minutes of his side Luzern's 1-1 draw with Sion in Switzerland.

And in Holland, Ken Dougall's Sparta scored in the final 10 minutes to defeat Den Haag overnight.

Craig Goodwin was an unused sub with Dougall subbed off for his side after 46 mins.

Also in the Eredivisie, Ajdin Hrustic played the full 90 mins in Groningen's 1-1 draw with FC Twente.

In Denmark, Caltex Socceroo midfielder Musti Amini played a full game for AGF who lost to Kobenhavn 1-0.

And in a welcome sight, Caltex Socceroo Apo Giannou got on the scoresheet as AEK drew 2-2 with Anorthosis in Cyprus.
