Taggart becomes first Australian to win K-League Golden Boot

Adam Taggart’s red-hot form has delivered a major accolade after the former Hyundai A-League star won the K-League’s Golden Boot award.

The 26-year-old is the first-ever Australian to finish top of the pops in Korea Republic’s top tier – netting a stunning 20 goals in his 33 appearances in his debut season with Suwon Bluewings.

It marks the second time he has been recognised as the top marksman in domestic top flight competition, after winning the Hyundai A-League’s Golden Boot in the 2013/14 season with Newcastle Jets.

Taggart held off strong challenges from Brazilian attackers Júnior Negrão of Ulsan Hyundai, who scored 19, and Daegu FC's Cesinha, who netted 15, to claim the number one prize.

The honour continued a stunning run of form for the Perth-born Taggart in 2019 following his departure from Brisbane Roar in February.

In October, he scored a double for the Caltex Socceroos – his first goals in national team colours in six years – in a 7-1 win over Chinese Taipei in FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifying.

He then backed it up with the winning goal against Jordan last month to help secure the Caltex Socceroos their first ever win in Amman.

Taggart's rise in one of Asia’s top domestic club competitions comes as no surprise to Hyundai A-League fans, who watched him net 50 time in stints with Perth Glory, Brisbane Roar and the Jets.

In August, Taggart was announced as the K-League July Player of the Month, after the sharpshooter recorded his first hat-trick in the competition against Gangwon FC.
