Socceroos Abroad: Players return to club land following Asian Cup

As our Socceroos return to club land following the Asian Cup, there are some big matches across Europe with plenty of action on offer.

Plus, a number of Socceroos could make debuts for their new clubs after securing transfers in the January transfer window.

Here’s what’s coming up.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in the English Championship, where Samuel Silvera (cap #634) has already featured for Middlesbrough, coming off the bench in the 77th minute as they drew 1-1 with Sunderland on Sunday. Tom Glover was also in goal.

Riley McGree (cap #609) will be hoping to make his return to the lineup when they face Bristol City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Elsewhere in the league, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) could return to the Ipswich Town squad alongside Massimo Luongo (cap #571) against West Brom on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEDT).

Also, Harry Souttar's (cap #606) Leicester City face Watford on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In League One, Kusini Yengi (cap #638)could return to action with Portsmouth FC when they face Carlisle on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) while new Socceroo Gethin Jones (cap #639) is also likely to feature for Bolton Wanderers on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

He did start on Wednesday against Cambridge United but the game was called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

Elsewhere in League One, Callum Elder (cap #614) could feature again for Derby County when they face Shrewsbury on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

There is also a possibility that Joe Gauci (cap #631) could appear in Aston Villa's matchday squad for the first time when they host Manchester United on Monday at 3:30am (AEDT). 

Over to Scotland, where Keanu Baccus (cap #628) came off the bench in the 58th minute to mark his return to club football as St Mirren beat Dundee 2-0 on Thursday., 

He could feature again alongside Ryan Strain (cap #624) on Monday in the Scottish Cup fifth round against Celtic on Monday at 1am (AEDT).

Martin Boyle (cap #599), Lewis Miller (cap #635), and Olyroo Nectarios Triantis all played full games in a 2-1 loss to Celtic on Thursday.

They are also likely to feature in the Scottish Cup fifth round against Inverness CT on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Elsewhere, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) was an unused substitute while Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof played a full game as Heart of Midlothian beat St Johnstone 1-0 on Thursday. Ryan McGowan (cap #546) played a full game for St Johnstone. 

Kye Rowles (cap #622) and Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) could return when Hearts face Championship side Airdrieonians FC on Monday at 4am (AEDT) in the Scottish Cup fifth round while St Johnstone face Dundee in the league on Monday at 1am (AEDT).

In the Scottish Championship, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) should start in the centre of defence for Hamilton Academical as the side continue their promotion push when they face Annan Athletic on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Over to Germany, where Jackson Irvine (cap #568) and Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) could be in line to return for St. Pauli when they travel to FC Magdeburg on Saturday at 11pm (AEDT) in the 2. Bundesliga. St. Pauli hold a five-point lead at the top of the table. 

Elsewhere in the 2. Bundesliga, John Iredale could return to action with  SV Wehen Wiesbaden against Nurnberg on Saturday at 4:30am (AEDT).

In the Netherlands, Mathew Ryan (cap #555) was the goalkeeper for AZ Alkmaar in the cup on Thursday as they bowed out of the competition with a 2-0 loss to Feyenoord. 

He is likely to feature again on Sunday at 6am (AEDT) when they face Almere, hoping to snap a five-game winless run in the Eredivisie.

Staying in the Eredivisie, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) could get his first minutes with his new club when Heracles Almelo face Vitesse on Sunday at 7am (AEDT).

Garang Kuol (cap #627) could also feature for FC Volendam when they host PSV Eindhoven on Monday at 2:45am (AEDT).

In Belgium, Jordan Bos (cap #632) is likely to return to action for Westerlo when they face Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on Sunday at 4:15am (AEDT). 

Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) could also feature for Standard Liege when they face Oud-Heverlee Leuven in the Belgium First Division A on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Jason Davidson (cap #545) is also likely to appear for KAS Eupen as they look to break a two-game winless run and move out of the relegation round with a win against third-placed Club Brugge on Sunday at 6:45am (AEDT).

Over to France, where Denis Genreau (cap #610) could get some minutes for Toulouse in their Ligue 1 match against Nantes at 1am (AEDT) on Monday.

In Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) is likely to start again when Parma take on Cittadella on Sunday at 12am (AEDT) in Serie B.

Milos Degenek (cap #585) could also appear for FK Crvena Zvezda when they resume Serbian Superliga action and face Vozdovac on Sunday at 2:30am (AEDT).

In Croatia, Fran Karacic (cap #607) could make his debut for NK Nudes in the Croatian Football League when they travel to Varazdin on Saturday at 3am (AEDT). 

James Holland (cap #508) is likely to feature for Austria Wien when they face Hartberg in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday at 3:00am (AEDT).

Over to Saudi Arabia, Aziz Behich (cap #547) made his debut off the bench in the 74th minute for Al-Nassr FC as they lost 2-0 to Al-Hilal on Friday in the Riyahd season cup final friendly match.


In the Saudi Second Division, Connor Pain (cap #565) could line up again for Al-Orobah FC face Ohod on Wednesday at 12am (AEDT).

In India, Jason Cummings (cap #626) and Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) could feature for Mohun Bagan against Hyderabad on Sunday at 1am (AEDT). 

Finishing in Thailand, where Kenny Dougall (cap #608) could make his debut for Buriram United when they face Lamphun Warrior FC on Sunday at 10pm (AEDT). 

Subway Olyroos

In League One, Nicholas Bilokapic is likely to feature for Peterborough United when they face Wycombe on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Over to Premier League 2, where Cameron Peupion will likely feature for Brighton & Hove Albion Under 21 when they face Norwich Under 21 on Saturday at 6:30am (AEDT). Steven Hall could also be involved for the first time following his transfer from Adelaide United.

Elsewhere in the league, Chris Donnell could feature for Fulham Under 21 when they face Blackburn Under 21 on Saturday at 6am (AEDT).

In England's Professional U23 Development League, Mathew Dench could feature for Charlton Atheltic Under 21 when they face Ipswich on Wednesday at 12am (AEDT).

Elsewhere in the league, Marlee Francois could appear for Bristol City Under 21 when they travel to QPR Under 21 on Saturday at 11pm (AEDT).

As mentioned above, Nectarios Triantis played another 90 minutes with his new team as Hibernian lost 2-1 to Celtic on Thursday. He is likely to feature in the Scottish Cup fifth round against Inverness CT on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In Eerste Divisie, Adrian Segecic could appear again for FC Dordrecht when they face Roda on Saturday at 6am (AEDT).
