Socceroos Abroad: Yengi scores again, Metcalfe assists

Our Subway Socceroos continued to perform abroad this weekend in the EFL League One, while there were clean sheets and goals also recorded across Europe. 

Important results for Socceroos in Germany and Italy have kept their title surges going.

Kusini Yengi (cap #638) made it goals in back-to-back games, scoring a consolation in Portsmouth’s 2-1 loss to Wigan Athletic on Sunday in EFL League One.

However, it did not matter with Portsmouth celebrating their promotion to the Championship after the match, with the trophy and medal presentation.
 

 

Elsewhere in the competition, Gethin Jones (cap #639) contributed to a clean sheet for Bolton Wanderers against Port Vale in a 2-0 win on Sunday morning.

In 2. Bundesliga, Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) picked up an assist in St. Pauli’s 2-1 win over Hannover 96 on Sunday night. Jackson Irvine (cap #568) also played a full game for St. Pauli. 

The victory snapped St. Pauli's two match losing streak to remain in second spot, one point behind leader Holstein Kiel and five clear off third as they got their Bundesliga promotion aspirations back on track.


Alessandro Circati (cap #637) helped Parma keep a clean sheet in their 0-0 draw with Palermo on Friday morning in Serie B.

Nick D’Agostino (cap #621) equalised for Viking as they drew 1-1 with Fredrikstad on Monday morning in Norway’s Eliteserien. Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) played 70 minutes and was replaced by Gianni Stesness (cap #617) for Viking as well.


James Holland (cap #508) put in a solid performance for Austria Wien at centre-back, keeping a clean sheet in a 3-0 win against WSG Tirol on Sunday in the Austrian Bundesliga.

John Iredale (cap #640) played from the 73rd minute on Saturday night in the 2. Bundesliga, helping Wehen Wiesbaden fight back to draw 1-1 with 1.FC Kaiserslautern.

Over to Scotland, where Kye Rowles (cap #622), Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) and Cameron Devlin (cap #625) all started for Hearts in their 2-0 loss to Rangers in the Scottish Cup. Rowles played a full game, while Devlin played 73 minutes, and Atkinson played an hour.

Dylan McGowan (cap #590) played a full game for Hamilton Academical as they edged past Montrose 2-1 on Sunday morning in Scotland’s League One.

Jordan Bos (cap #632) returned to the bench following injury for Westerlo in the side’s 3-3 draw with Standard Liege on Sunday morning in Belgium’s First Division A.

Awer Mabil (cap #597) played 68 minutes in his first start back for Grasshopper as they fell 1-0 to Servette on Sunday morning in the Swiss Super League.

In the J1 League, Mitch Duke (cap #559) came on in the 71st minute of Machida Zelvia’s 2-1 win over FC Tokyo on Sunday afternoon, keeping the side top of J. League.

Mitch Langerak (cap #566) performed well in goal for Nagoya Grampus in their 2-1 win against Cerezo Osaka on Sunday afternoon.

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) played a full game in defence for Buriram United in their 4-1 win against Ratchaburi on Saturday night in Thai League.

Harrison Delbridge (cap #623) was an unused substitute for Incheon United’s 4-1 loss to Gangwon FC on Sunday afternoon in K-League 1.

In Major League Soccer, Brad Smith (cap #575) remained on the bench for Houston Dynamo’s 1-0 loss to Austin FC on Sunday morning.

Louis D’Arrigo played 63 minutes for Lechia Gdansk as they edged past Gornik Leczna on Sunday in Polish I Liga.

Tyrese Francois played a full game in midfield for Vejle Boldklub as the team went down 2-1 to Hvidovre on Sunday night in the Danish Superligaen.

In EFL League One, Nicholas Bilokapic was the backup goalkeeper for Peterborough United in their 2-0 win against Bristol Rovers on Sunday. United will finish in a promotion qualification spot, giving them a chance to play Championship football next season.
