Socceroos Abroad: O’Neill, Silvera and Boyle score, Hrustic debuts

As our players returned to club land following the Asian Cup, several Socceroos found themselves on the scoresheet while Maty Ryan kept another clean sheet and Ajdin Hrustic returned.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in Belgium, where Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) played a full game and scored a stunning volleyed winner for Standard de Liège in their 1-0 triumph over Leuven in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday. It was the 25-year-old's first goal in Belgium.

The Socceroos midfielder chested down the ball before hitting an unstoppable half volley in the 19th minute which proved to be the winner.

The win snaps a four game winless streak and holds Liege in 10th position. 

Elsewhere in Belgium, Jordan Bos (cap #632) returned to action with Westerlo and played a full game as they drew 2-2 at champions Union SG, while Jason Davidson (cap #545) also put in a full shift as Eupen went down 4-0 at Club Brugge on Sunday.

Over to the English Championship, where Samuel Silvera (cap #634) came off the bench in the 80th minute to score a 92nd minute consolation goal in a 2-1 loss to Bristol City on Sunday.

Tom Glover was also in goal while Riley McGree (cap #609) came off the bench in the 68th minute.

Elsewhere in the league, Massimo Luongo (cap #571) played 83 minutes for Ipswich Town in a 2-2 draw with West Brom on Saturday.

In League One, Kusini Yengi (cap #638) was an unused substitute for Portsmouth FC as they beat Carlisle 1-0 on Sunday while new Socceroo Gethin Jones (cap #639) played a full game for Bolton Wanderers in a 1-1 draw on Sunday.

Elsewhere in League One, Callum Elder (cap #614) came off the bench in the 74th minute for Derby County as they drew 1-1 with Shrewsbury on Sunday.

Over to Scotland, where Martin Boyle (cap #599) scored and assisted another as Hibernian progressed with a 3-1 victory away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup fifth round on Sunday.

Lewis Miller (cap #635) also played 83 minutes while Olyroo Nectarios Triantis played another full game.

Keanu Baccus (cap #628) played a full game on Monday in the Scottish Cup fifth round against Celtic in a 2-0 loss on Monday at 1am (AEDT).

Elsewhere, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) was an unused substitute while Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof played a full game as Heart of Midlothian beat St Johnstone 1-0 on Thursday. Ryan McGowan (cap #546) played a full game for St Johnstone.

Kye Rowles (cap #622) came off the bench in the 26th minute while Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) was thrust into the game in the 74th minute as Hearts beat Championship side Airdrieonians FC 4-1 on Monday in the Scottish Cup fifth round. Nieuwenhof also scored a goal while Devlin was an unused substitute again. 

McGowan came off the bench for St Johnstone in the 79th minute as they lost 2-1 to Dundee in the league on Monday.

In the Scottish Championship, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) played 86 minutes for Hamilton Academical as they lost 3-2 to Annan Athletic on Sunday.

In the Netherlands, Mathew Ryan (cap #555) returned to the AZ Alkmaar lineup in the Eredivisie and kept a clean sheet, as AZ Alkmaar were frustrated 0-0 at Almere City in the Dutch Eredivisie. AZ are winless in six league games and have slipped to fourth.

Staying in the Eredivisie, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) started and played 81 minutes to debut for Heracles Almelo and return to football in a 3-2 win over Vitesse on Sunday.

Garang Kuol (cap #627) came off the bench in the 86th minute for FC Volendam in a 5-1 loss to PSV Eindhoven on Monday.

Over to Germany, where Jackson Irvine (cap #568) was absent due to illness while Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) was a 62nd minute substitute for St. Pauli as they lost 1-0 to FC Magdeburg on Saturday in the 2. Bundesliga. St. Pauli still holds a five-point lead at the top of the table due to Hamburger SV also losing.

Elsewhere in the 2. Bundesliga, John Iredale came off the bench in the 99th minute to return to action with SV Wehen Wiesbaden in a 1-1 draw with Nurnberg on Saturday.

In Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) played a full game for Parma as they beat Cittadella 2-1 on Sunday in Serie B.

James Holland (cap #508) came off the bench in the 83rd minute for Austria Wien as they beat Hartberg 3-1 in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday.

In India, Jason Cummings (cap #626) played 90 minutes and scored a goal while Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) also started and played 83 minutes for Mohun Bagan in a 2-0 win over Hyderabad on Sunday. 

Finishing in Thailand, where Kenny Dougall (cap #608) made his debut with a start and 69 minutes for Buriram United in a 2-1 win over Lamphun Warrior FC on Sunday.

Subway Olyroos

In League One, Nicholas Bilokapic was in goal for Peterborough United in a 5-2 loss to Wycombe on Sunday.

As mentioned above, Nectarios Triantis played another 90 minutes as Hibs progressed with a 3-1 victory away to Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup fifth round on Sunday.

As mentioned, in the Scottish Premiership, Calem Nieuwenhof played a full game as Heart of Midlothian beat St Johnstone 1-0 on Thursday. Nieuwenhof also scored a goal on Monday as Hearts beat Championship side Airdrieonians FC 4-1 on Monday in the Scottish Cup fifth round.
