Socceroos Abroad: Irvine scores as St Pauli slip up in title race

Our latest edition of Socceroos Abroad saw Jackson Irvine score his fourth goal of the season while Craig Goodwin suffered an injury blow.

Starting in Germany's 2 Bundesliga, where Jackson Irvine (cap #568) played another 90 minutes and scored his fourth goal of the season - a header from a corner - but it was not enough as leaders St Pauli suffered a 2-1 loss to Karlsruher on Sunday. 

The result leaves St Pauli with a two-point lead at the top. 

John Iredale (cap #640) was also in action in the German second division for Wehen Wiesbaden, coming off the bench in the 63rd minute in a 2-1 loss to Hansa on Saturday at 3:30am (AEDT).

Over to the Eredivisie, where Mathew Ryan (cap #555) was in goal for AZ Alkmaar as AZ Alkmaar conceded five goals for the second match in a row, this time suffering a 5-1 loss to league leaders PSV on Sunday.

Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) also played a full game for Heracles Almelo on Sunday as they beat Sparta Rotterdam 2-1 to move into 13th position on the ladder. 

Over to Saudia Arabia, where Craig Goodwin (cap #562) came off the bench at half time as Al-Wehda drew 1-1 with Al-Ahli Saudi FC on Saturday. 

Unfortunately, Goodwin suffered a broken rib injury during the match which has ruled him out for the next six weeks. 

In the EFL Championship, Samuel Silvera (cap #634) came off the bench in the 83rd minute as Middlesbrough beat Swansea City 2-0 on Sunday. Tom Glover was also on the bench as the reserve goalkeeper. The win keeps Boro six points off a play-off spot.

Elsewhere in England’s second tier, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played another full game while Massimo Luongo (cap #571) started and came off in the 75th minute as Ipswich Town lost 1-0 to Norwich City on Saturday.

The loss left Ipswich relying on Leicester City and Leeds United to falter. Leeds United succumbed to a 2-1 loss against Coventry City, while the Foxes emerged victorious with a 2-1 win over Birmingham City, securing the top spot on the table.

In EFL League One, Kusini Yengi (cap #638) started, played 63 minutes and won a penalty for Portsmouth as they beat Shrewsbury Town 3-1 on Sunday.

Over to Scotland, where Cameron Devlin (cap #625) and Kye Rowles (cap #622) both played full games for Hearts while Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) came off the bench in the 73rd minute in a 2-1 win over St Mirren on Sunday.

Keanu Baccus (cap #628) also came off the bench at half time. 

Elsewhere, Martin Boyle (cap #599) and Olyroo Nectarios Triantis played a full game for Hibernian as they lost 2-1 to Ryan McGowan (cap #546)'s St Johnstone on Sunday. McGowan also played a full game.

In Scotland’s League One, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) played a full game for Hamilton Academical on Sunday as the side bounced back from last week's draw with a 3-1 win over Annan Athletic.

In Belgium’s First Division A relegation round, Jason Davidson (cap #545) played a full game for KAS Eupen as they drew 1-1 with Kortrijk on Monday.

Alessandro Circati (cap #637) played a full game on Saturday in Serie B for Parma as they drew 0-0 with FC Südtirol.

In France's Ligue 2, Mohamed Toure (#636) came off the bench in the 80th minute for Paris FC on Sunday as they beat Grenoble Foot 2-1. 

Fran Karacic (cap #607) played a full game for NK Rudes in a 3-2 loss to NK Osijek on Saturday in Croatia 1. Division.

James Holland (cap #508) was a used substitute for Austria Wien in the Austrian Bundesliga relegation play-offs, as they drew 1-1 with Austria Lustenau on Sunday.

Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) played 88 minutes while Nick D'Agostino (cap #621) replaced him off the bench as Viking lost 1-0 to FK Bodø/Glimt on Sunday. Gianni Stensness (cap #617) made his return from injury with an 88th-minute cameo off the bench. 

In the Swiss Super League, Awer Mabil (cap #597) made his long-awaited return from injury for Grasshopper, substituted on in the 84th minute in a 3-2 loss to Yverdon. Mabil last featured for the Zurich-based side in mid-December before suffering a quad injury.

Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) played 93 minutes and scored the winner for Mohun Bagan SG in a 1-0 win over Punjab FC on Saturday in the Indian Super League. Jason Cummings (cap #626) also started and played 64 minutes.

Trent Sainsbury (cap #574) played a full game for Al Wakrah in a 4-2 loss to Al Arabi on Saturday in the Qatar Stars League.

Mitchell Duke (cap #559) came off the bench in the 89th minute for Machida Zelvia in the J. League in a 1-0 win over Kawasaki on Sunday. After a loss last week, the three points push them back to the top of the table. 

Also in the competition, Thomas Deng (cap #598) played a full game for Albirex Niigata on Sunday as they lost 1-0 to Cerezo Osaka.

In Thailand, Kenny Dougall (cap #608) played another full game for Buriram United in the Thai Premier League as they beat Prachuap 1-0 on Saturday.

Brad Smith (cap #575) came off the bench in the 62nd minute for Houston Dynamo on Sunday in a 2-1 loss against Chicago in Major League Soccer.

Starting in the English Premier League, Cameron Peupion was on the bench as Brighton and Hove Albion lost 3-0 to Arsenal on Sunday.

Elsewhere in England, Nicholas Bilokapic was on the bench again for Peterborough United on Monday as they won the Football League Trophy with a last-minute 2-1 win over Wycombe.

The victory maintained Peterborough's 100% record at Wembley on their fourth trip to the national stadium, and they could yet add promotion to the Championship to a memorable season.

Posh sit in fourth place, eight points outside the two automatic promotion spots, but with two games in hand on all of the teams above them.

In the Danish Superligaen, Tyrese Francois played 82 minutes on Sunday as Vejle Boldklub drew 1-1 with Viborg.

Louis D'Arrigo came off the bench in the 60th minute for Lechia Gdansk on Sunday in a 1-0 loss against GKS Katowice.

Alexandar Popovic also played another full game for Gwangju on Saturday in the K League 1 in a 2-1 loss to Gimcheon Sangmu FC.

As mentioned in Scotland, Nectarios Triantis played a full game for Hibernian as they lost 2-1 to St Johnstone on Sunday. 

In the Netherlands, Adrian Segecic came off the bench in the 80th minute for FC Dordrecht in a 2-1 win over De Graafschap in Eerste Divisie on Saturday.
