Socceroos Abroad: Irvine and Metcalfe combine to put St Pauli clear, Ryan keeps another clean sheet

In another big weekend of Socceroos Abroad action, Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe combined to put St Pauli in charge of 2. Bundesliga promotion while Maty Ryan kept a clean sheet against a Dutch powerhouse.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in Germany, where Jackson Irvine (cap #568) and Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) both played key roles as St Pauli boosted its promotion hopes with a 4-3 win over Holstein Kiel in the 2. Bundesliga on Saturday.

Irvine played a full game and assisted Metcalfe's 57-minute goal while Metcalfe also registered an assist in a standout performance by the Socceroos pair. 

The result opens up an eight-point advantage to their nearest challengers as well as a 10-point jump to rivals Hamburg as automatic promotion looms closer.

Elsewhere in the 2. Bundesliga, John Iredale came off the bench in the 74th minute for SV Wehen Wiesbaden in a 2-1 loss to Paderborn on Saturday.

In Croatia, Fran Karacic (cap #607) played a full game and scored a goal for NK Rudes in the Croatian Football League as they lost 2-1 to Istra 1961 on Saturday.


In Thailand, Kenny Dougall (cap #608) opened the scoring and played 69 minutes for Buriram United as they beat Police Tero FC 6-2 on Saturday to maintain their three-point lead at the top of the table. 
 


In the Netherlands, Mathew Ryan (cap #555) was in goal and kept another clean sheet for AZ Alkmaar as they held on to fourth spot with a 2-0 win over Ajax on Monday in the Eredivisie.


Staying in the Eredivisie, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) played another full game for Heracles Almelo as they lost 1-0 to Utrecht on Saturday.

Garang Kuol (cap #627) was an unused substitute for FC Volendam as they lost 4-0 to Heerenveen on Monday.

Over to the English Premier League, where Joe Gauci (cap #631) was on the bench again for Aston Villa as they beat Nottingham Forrest 4-2 on Sunday.

In the English Championship, Cameron Burgess (cap #633) and Massimo Luongo (cap #571) both played full games for Ipswich Town in a 3-1 win over Birmingham City on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the league, Tom Glover was in goal for Middlesbrough in a 2-0 loss to Plymouth Argyle on Sunday. Riley McGree (cap #609) also started and played 59 minutes while Samuel Silvera (cap #634) was subbed in the 80th minute. 

In League One, Gethin Jones (cap #639) played a full game for Bolton Wanderers on Sunday in a 4-1 loss to Blackpool.

Elsewhere in League One, Kusini Yengi (cap #638) came off the bench in the 73rd minute for Portsmouth FC in a 0-0 draw with Charlton on Sunday while Callum Elder (cap #614) played 76 minutes for Derby County in a 2-1 loss to Barnsley on Sunday.

Over to Scotland, where Keanu Baccus (cap #628) came off the bench in the 75th minute for St Mirren as they beat St Johnstone 2-0 on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the Scottish Premiership, Lewis Miller (cap #635) played a full game while Martin Boyle (cap #599) was subbed off in the 89th minute as Hibernian beat Dundee 2-1 on Sunday. Olyroo Nectarios Triantis also came off the bench in the 84th minute. 

Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) played a full game while Kye Rowles (cap #622) was substituted at half time, Cameron Devlin (cap #625) came off the bench in the 62nd minute as Hearts lost 5-0 to Rangers on Saturday. Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof was also subbed off in the 82nd minute. 

In the Scottish Championship, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) played another full game in centre of defence for Hamilton Academical as they lost 2-1 to third-placed Alloa Athletic on Sunday.

In Belgium, Jordan Bos (cap #632) played a full game for Westerlo as they lost 1-0 to STVV on Sunday. Westerlo sit 10th in the league. 

Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) played a full game for Standard Liege as they lost 2-1 to league leaders Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgium First Division A on Monday.


Jason Davidson (cap #545) also put in a full shift for KAS Eupen as they extended their losing streak to five matches with a 2-0 loss to Cercle Brugge on Monday.

In Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) played a full game for Parma in a 1-1 draw with Como on Sunday in Serie B.

James Holland (cap #508) put in a full shift for Austria Wien as they lost 3-0 to Rapid Wein in the Austrian Bundesliga on Monday.

Thomas Deng (cap #598) returned to action in the J1 League as he played a full game for Albirex Niigata in a 2-1 win over Sagan Tosu on Saturday.

Mitch Lankerak (cap #566) was also in goal for Nagoya Grampus on Friday as they lost 3-0 to Kashima Antlers. 

In India, Jason Cummings (cap #626) came off the bench in the 65th minute while Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) played a full game for Mohun Bagan in a 0-0 draw with Odisha on Saturday.

In the Polish I Liga, Louis D'Arrigo came off the bench in the 70th minute for Lechia Gdansk in a 2-0 win over Znicz Pruszków on Monday. Lechia are third in the league as they chase promotion.
