Socceroos Abroad: Yengi scores in League One title win, Aussies collect silverware in India

It was a trophy-lifting week for some Socceroos abroad, as titles were claimed in India and England’s EFL League One.

There is still a lot up for grabs for Aussies over the final few weeks of the season, with title challenges in Germany and Italy heating up.

Here is what is coming up this weekend.

Samuel Silvera (cap #634) and Tom Glover could get some game time for Middlesbrough on Tuesday morning at 5:00am (AEST) when they host Leeds in the EFL Championship.

Joe Gauci (cap #631) was on the bench for Aston Villa as they edged out Lille on penalties in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals on Friday morning. He might be on the bench again as Aston Villa play Bournemouth in the English Premier League on Monday at 12:00am (AEST).

Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) and Jason Cummings (cap #626) proved the difference for Mohun Bagan SG as they claimed the Indian Super League shield in dramatic fashion on the final day. The side prevailed past fellow title-chasers Mumbai City FC 2-1 on Tuesday morning, with Petratos notching two assists while Cummings bagged their second goal. The pair have been an integral part of Mohun's attacking success this season and have contributed to 28 goals between them. 


In Serie B, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) is likely to start in defence for Parma when they travel to Palermo on Saturday at 4:30 am (AEST). Parma sit five points clear of Como in second with five games to go.

Kusini Yengi (cap #638) scored early for Portsmouth in their dramatic 3-2 win over Barnsley, which confirmed their EFL League One title. This means Yengi has earned a maiden trophy in his first year in England while notching 12 goals so far. The striker should get some more minutes when Portsmouth host Wigan Athletic on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST).


Also in the competition, Callum Elder (cap #614) is unlikely to be involved for Derby County as they take on Cambridge United away from home at 12:00am (AEST) on Sunday.

Gethin Jones (cap #639) missed Bolton Wanderers 2-2 draw with Shrewsbury Town on Wednesday morning. Jones could be back in the team for Bolton’s home tie with Port Vale on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST).

Kye Rowles (cap #622), Cameron Devlin (cap #625) and Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) could all start for Hearts as they travel to Rangers for the Scottish Cup semi-final at 12:00am (AEST) on Monday. The trio will be eager to help Hearts avoid another battering from Rangers this time around.

With the Scottish Premiership splitting up into Championship and Relegation groups, the rest of the Scottish-playing Aussies will be on the park next weekend. 

Dylan McGowan (cap #590) should start for Hamilton Academical on Sunday at 12:00am when they take on Montrose away in Scotland’s League One.

Jackson Irvine (cap #568) and Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) face a must-win game with St Pauli against an in-form Hannover 96 on Sunday at 9:30pm (AEST) in 2. Bundesliga. Back-to-back defeats in the league have seen the team drop to second on the table with five games to play.

Elsewhere in Germany’s second division, John Iredale (cap #640) might start for Wehen Wiesbaden for their away match against 1.FC Kaiserslautern on Saturday at 9:00pm (AEST).

In Belgium's top flight, Jason Davidson (cap #545) could start for Eupen in their away fixture against Sporting Charteroi on Monday at 3:15am (AEST).

James Holland (cap #508) will look to build on his outstanding display last weekend when Austria Wien host WSG Tiroli on Sunday at 1:00am (AEST) in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Awer Mabil (cap #597) will hope to continue his recovery from injury on Sunday at 2:00am (AEST) when Grasshopper travel to Servette in the Swiss Super League for the final matchday.

Fran Karacic (cap #607) is likely to start for Rudes on Tuesday at 1:00am (AEST) when they host NK Varazdin in Croatia's 1. Division. 

Alex Gersbach (cap #587) could earn another start for Kalmar FF on Tuesday at 3:00 am (AEST) when they travel to Elfsborg in Sweden's Allsveskan.  

Gianni Stensness (cap #617) played the first half of Viking 2’s 2-1 win over Jerv in 2. Divisjon in Norway on Tuesday morning.

Nick D'Agostino (cap #621), Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) and Stesness could all be in the team for Viking’s home fixture against Fredrikstad in Norway’s Eliterserien on Monday at 1:00am (AEST).

In Japan, ​​Thomas Deng (cap #598) missed Albirex Niigata’s 2-0 win in the League Cup on Wednesday. He might start in Albirex’s away trip to Kyoto Sanga FC on Saturday at 3:00pm (AEST) in J. League.

Harrison Delbridge (cap #623) could be in action when Incheon United face Gangwon FC on Sunday at 3:00pm (AEST) in the K League 1. 

Brad Smith (cap #575) will seek more minutes for Houston Dynamo when they welcome Austin FC in Major League Soccer on Sunday at 10:30am (AEST).

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) looks set to start for Buriram United in their match against Ratchaburi FC on Saturday at 11:00pm (AEST) in the Thai League.

In the English Premier League, Cameron Peupion could be on the bench again for Brighton and Hove Albion when they host Manchester City on Friday at 5:00am (AEST). 

In EFL League One, Nicholas Bilokapic looks set to be on the bench for Peterborough United against Bristol Rovers on Sunday at 12:00am (AEST).

Tyrese Francois is likely to get another start in Denmark’s Superligaen for Vejle Boldklub on Sunday at 10:00pm (AEST) against Hvidovre.

Louis D'Arrigo could be involved for Lechia Gdansk in their away clash with Gornick Leczna in Polish I Liga on Sunday at 1:30am (AEST).
