Qantas Futsalroos head coach Steven Knight has named a 24-man train-on squad following the recent 2012 FFA National Futsal Championships to prepare for the upcoming AFC Futsal Championship 2012 – ASEAN qualifiers.
Qantas Futsalroos head coach Steven Knight has named a 24-man train-on squad following the recent 2012 FFA National Futsal Championships to prepare for the upcoming AFC Futsal Championship 2012 - ASEAN qualifiers which will be held in Bangkok, Thailand from 21-26 February 2012.
Knight believes that from the group of players that his coaching staff have identified he will be able to form a squad that will be successful at the ASEAN qualifiers.
“From the group we have selected, we have a very good balance of youth and experience,” said Knight
“We will have a number of training sessions over the next couple of weeks before the final selection is made later next month.
“We know that our opposition in ASEAN is always improving and we are expecting some very tough matches, but I believe that the boys will be up to the challenge,” concluded Knight .
The Qantas Futsalroos have been placed alongside Cambodia, Malaysia and Vietnam in Group B of the ASEAN qualifiers for the AFC Futsal Championship 2012.
The Qantas Futsalroos opening match of the tournament will be against Cambodia on 21 February (kick-off 4:30pm local, 8:30pm AEDT), followed by Malaysia on 22 February (kick-off 7:00pm local, 11:00pm AEDT) with their last group match against Vietnam on 23 February (kick-off 5:00pm local, 9:00pm AEDT).
The top three teams from the ASEAN qualifiers will progress to the AFC Futsal Championships 2012 which will be held in the United Arab Emirates in May.
