Caltex Socceroo's loan deal to Danish club

Caltex Socceroos winger Chris Ikonomidis has secured a season-long loan deal with Danish club AGF where he will link up with fellow Australian Mustafa Amini.

AGF announced on Wednesday that Ikonomidis will join them for the rest of the 2016-17 Danish Superliga season, with the 21-year-old keen to secure regular games as Australia continues its bid to qualify for the 2018 World Cup.

Ikonomidis spent the second half of last season on loan at Serie B club Salernitana, making 14 appearances, scoring one goal and notching one assist.

AGF expect the Australia international to make an immediate impact.

"Chris is a talented player that has flair. With his speed and technique he can both get involved with collective pay and create something on his own," AGF sports director Jens Andersson said in a statement.

"He also knows the way to the goal and in that way he will make our play for unpredictable and give us more options to choose from in attack.

"He will certainly be exciting for AGF."

Ikonomidis is in Perth with the Socceroos this week ahead of Thursday's World Cup qualifier against Iraq, while he will also travel to United Arab Emirates for next week's match before heading to Denmark to begin work under coach Glen Riddersholm.

The former Sutherland Sharks junior will get his first opportunity to play for AGF on September 12 when they host FC Nordsjaelland.

Amini joined AGF in pre-season on a three-year contract and the 23-year-old midfielder has started well, scoring two goals in seven matches.
