Tim Cahill’s unbeaten start to life in the Indian Super League has continued with his Jamshedpur drawing 1-1 with ATK overnight.
In his first home appearance for his new club, Australia’s greatest-ever goalscorer started in attack and played 74 minutes before he was substituted.
Cahill’s side led courtesy of Sergio Cidoncha’s 35th-minute free-kick, which bounced awkwardly in front of the keeper to sneak past the gloveman and into the net.
But the visitors responded before the break as keeper Jamshedpur shot-stopper Subhasish Roy Chowdhury misjudged a corner, with the ball eventually crossing the line.
Cahill almost regained the lead for Jamshedpur just after the hour mark, meeting Mario Arques’ cross with a downward header, but it was straight at the keeper.
It was as close as either side came to finding a winner, with Cahill substituted 10 minutes later to a rousing reception from the home fans.
Despite being held to a draw at home, Jamshedpur remain unbeaten after three rounds with one win and two draws.
Jamshedpur are second on the ISL ladder, two points behind league-leaders NorthEast United ahead of a top-of-the-table clash next weekend.
It’s now less than a month until Cahill will play one final match for the Caltex Socceroos when they host Lebanon in Sydney on November 20.
