Bailey Wright ruled out for up to two months

Subway Socceroos defender Bailey Wright will miss the remainder of the 2022/23 season after suffering ligament damage to his ankle while on loan at Rotherham United.

The 30-year-old sustained the ankle injury in the first-half against West Brom on Good Friday which the South Yorkshire-based outfit claimed a 3-1 win.

Wright accumulated seven appearances with the Millers after joining provisionally in January from Sunderland, however his campaign has been sadly cut short.

Black Cats boss Tony Mowbray provided an update on the centre-back, revealing Wright is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks.

“Bailey has a protective boot on – we think he’s injured his ankle ligaments quite badly unfortunately,” Mowbray said.

“He’s likely to be out for 6-8 weeks, so he won’t play again this season.

“We’d expect Bailey to be back training with us in June.”

It has been reported the centre-back will receive treatment on Wearside, but still be around the Rotherham dressing room, especially on match days.

Wright, who has 29 caps and two goals, was included in Graham Arnold's most recent squad where he played the full 90 minutes against Ecuador in Melbourne.
