Aussies Abroad Wrap: Devlin shines in Hearts win, Souttar plays another 90

As our Socceroos reintegrated with their club sides after the FIFA World Cup Qatar, Cameron Devlin put in a standout performance in Hearts' win over Kilmarnock while Harry Souttar played another 90 minutes.

United Kingdom

 Starting in Scotland, where Cameron Devlin started, played 79 minutes and was crowned the sponsor's man of the match as Heart of Midlothian beat Kilmarnock 3-1 on Sunday.


Hearts move up to fourth, just behind Aberdeen, while Kilmarnock remain 11th, three clear of Dundee United.

Nathaniel Atkinson was an unused substitute while Kye Rowles served his suspension after receiving a red card in his last match for the Edinburgh club.

Aaron Mooy came off the bench in the 90 minute to close out Celtic's 1-0 win over Aberdeen on Saturday. The result restores Celtic's nine-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Aziz Behich Dundee United's had their clash with Livingston postponed due to the pitch being frozen. It was one of several matches in the SPFL called off this weekend. 

Keanu Baccus' St Mirren also had their tie with Motherwell called off due to extensive damage at Fir Park stadium following the recent freezing winter weather. Pipes burst inside the concourse, and it was deemed to be unsafe for supporters to attend.

In the English Championship, where Harry Souttar started and played another 90 minutes as Stoke City beat Bristol City 2-1 on Sunday. 

Souttar also had a hand in the equaliser when his long ball from inside his own half hit Andy King on the back and Liam Delap was in the right place to fire home right-footed from 12 yards.


The come-from-behind victory sees Stoke move up to 17th in the Championship, while Bristol City drop to 18th.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Riley McGree started and played 72 minutes as Middlesbrough lost 3-1 to the league leaders Burnley in the Championship on Sunday.

Defeat at Turf Moor brought to an end Michael Carrick's run of four wins and a draw in Boro's past five games, after they had taken a shock lead against the run of play in the 49th minute.

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic was an unused substitute as Huddersfield lost 2-0 against Watford on Sunday. 

In League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman Salford City had their tie with Colchester postponed due to the frozen state of the JobServe Community Stadium pitch. Lachlan Brook's Crewe Alexandra also had their match against Walsall postponed. 

Europe

Starting in Italy's Serie B, where Fran Karačić started and played 90 minutes as Brescia Calcio lost 3-0 against Pisa on Sunday. The result moves Brescia into eighth position.

In Spain, Awer Mabil was an unused substitute as Cádiz CF beat Roma 3-0 in their final friendly match before the La Liga resumption on Saturday.

  • In the England Championship, Tom Rogic started, played 74 minutes and assisted as West Brom beat Rotherham 3-0 on Sunday. Rogic produced a superb touch to spin around and leave Rotherham's midfield bemused before playing a defence-splitting through ball to assist West Brom's opener.
  • In League One, Caleb Watts started and played 45 minutes as Morecambe lost 2-1 against Plymouth Argyle on Sunday.
  • Elsewhere in League One, Jack Iredale started and played 79 minutes as Bolton Wanderers won 2-0 against Exeter City on Sunday.
