Aussies Abroad Wrap: Behich and Genreau assist, Mooy returns for Old Firm win

In another big weekend of Aussies Abroad action, Denis Genreau and Aziz Behich assisted, Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe's St Pauli made it 10 wins in a row while Aaron Mooy returned to the Celtic starting XI for the Old Firm derby.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in France's Ligue 1, where Denis Genreau made his first start in the French top division, played 69 minutes and registered an assist as Toulouse FC won 2-1 against Montpellier on Sunday.

In Germany, where Connor Metcalfe started and played 74 minutes while Jackson Irvine played another full match as St Pauli made it 10 wins in a row by beating Heidenheim 1-0 on Sunday. St Pauli are fourth in the 2 Bundesliga, four points behind third-placed Heidenheim. 

In the Scottish Premiership, Aziz Behich played a full game for Dundee United and registered an assist in a crual last minute 2-1 win against James Jeggo's Hibernian on Sunday.

Jeggo also played a full game for Hibs but it was Behich's United that had the last laugh. 

United went ahead inside eight minutes as Behich broke forward from his wide midfield position and, at the second attempt, delivered a perfect cross for Steven Fletcher to head home unchallenged from six yards.

United move to within two points of 11th-placed Ross County with the victory while Hibs suffered a fourth consecutive defeat to remain only one point above seventh-placed Livingston.

Aaron Mooy also returned from injury with a start and 60 minutes as Celtic extended their lead at the top of the table to 12 points after a 3-2 win in Saturday’s Old Firm derby to all but end Rangers’ title hopes.

Ryan Strain played a full match while Keanu Baccus started and was substituted in the 90th minute as St Mirren beat Heart of Midlothian 2-0 in an all-Aussie affair at Tynecastle on Sunday. 

Kye Rowles also played a full game for Hearts while Cameron Devlin started and was substituted in the 76th minute. Garang Kuol was an unused substitute. 

The 2-0 result was compounded as Hearts were overtaken by Aberdeen - having sat third in the table since the start of 2023 - while St Mirren closed to within a point.

In the Scottish Championship, Dylan McGowan played a full match in Hamilton Academical's 1-1 draw with Cove Ranger on Sunday. 

In the Premier League, Harry Souttar was an unused substitute as Leicester City lost 1-0 to relegation rivals Bournemouth on Sunday.

The loss leaves them one from the bottom on 25 points, two points clear of Southampton but two behind 18th-placed Nottingham Forest and Everton, who are 17th. Bournemouth have shot up to 15th on 30 points with the crucial victory.

In the English Championship, Riley McGree played another full game for Middlesbrough as they lost 2-1 to league leaders Burnley on Saturday.

For fourth-placed Boro, this was a damaging second successive defeat and they are nine points adrift of Sheffield United, who have also played a game fewer.

Bailey Wright also started for Rotherham United in a 3-1 win over West Brom, but he was forced off with an injury after 26 minutes. Tom Rogic came off the bench in the 58th minute. 

Elsewhere in the Championship, Kenny Dougall was an unused substitute as Blackpool lost 3-1 to relegation rivals Cardiff City on Saturday. The defeat leaves Blackpool seven points from safety with six games remaining. 

In League One, Massimo Luongo started and came off in the 78th minute for Ipswich Town FC in a 4-0 win over Wycombe on Saturday.

In Premier League 2 Division 1, Alexander Robertson played a full game for Manchester City U21 in a 3-2 loss to Brighton U21 on Sunday.

In the Netherlands, Maty Ryan was in goal as AZ Alkmaar lost 1-0 to Sparta Rotterdam on Sunday. The loss continues a poor run of form for AZ, who have dropped to fourth and are winless in three matches. 

In Czechia, Awer Mabil came off the bench in the 78th minute for AC Sparta Prague in a 2-0 win against FK Pardubice on Monday.

In Belgium, Jason Davidson played another full game for KAS Eupen in a 0-0 draw with Kortrijk in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday.

Over to Asia, where Thomas Deng played 90 minutes for Albirex Niigata in a 0-0 draw with Vissel Kobe on Sunday in the J1 League.

Elsewhere in the J1League, Mitch Langerak was in goal for Nagoya Grampus in a 0-0 draw with Urawa Reds on Sunday. 

The K1 League also continued with Harrison Delbridge playing another full match for Incheon United in a 2-0 loss to Jeonbuk on Sunday. 

In the Israeli Premier League play-offs, Nikita Rukavytsya was an unused substitute in a 4-1 win for Maccabi Haifa over M. Netanya on Sunday. 

In the MLS, Milos Degenek played another full game for Columbus Crewin a 2-0 win over DC United on Sunday. Columbus move into fourth in the Eastern Conference with the win.

In Premier League 2 Division 1, Cameron Peupion scored a hattrick in a 3-2 win for Brighton & Hove Albion U21 over  Manchester City U21 on Sunday. 

In the English Championship, goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic was an unused substitute in Huddersfield's 3-2 win over Watford on Friday. 

In League One, Caleb Watts came on in the 71st minute for Morecambe in a 3-1 loss against Plymouth Argyle on Saturday.

In League Two, Lachlan Brook started and came off in the 61st minute for Crewe Alexandra in a 3-0 win over Barrow on Saturday.

In the German 3. Liga, John Iredale started and played 71 minutes in Germany's 3. Liga as SV Wehen Wiesbaden beat VfB Oldenburg 2-1 on Saturday.  

In the German Regionalliga West, Jacob Italiano came off the bench in the 68th minute for Borussia Mönchengladbach II in a 1-1 draw with ASC Fortuna Köln on Sunday.

In Scotland, Lewis Miller was an unused substitute for Hibernian in a 2-1 loss against Dundee United on Sunday.
