Aussies Abroad Preview: Jeggo prepares for Greek derby as Socceroos' clubs face off in Denmark

James Jeggo is preparing to line up against fierce rivals PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece while a Danish Superligaen clash on Sunday could see three Socceroos go head-to-head. 

There will be an Aussie connection taking place as Awer Mabil’s Midtjylland entertain Alex Gersbach and Daniel Arzani’s AGF Aarhus on Sunday.

Mabil’s side have a two-point buffer at the top of the table while Aarhus sit in fourth after suffering a shock defeat against Nordsjaelland ahead of this weekend’s clash.

James Jeggo will be involved in one of the most highly contested derbies in Greece when his Aris Thessaloniki battle it out against PAOK Thessaloniki in the Super League on Sunday.

This match will not only give either side bragging rights across the city, but it could consolidate one side’s position at the expense of the other.

If Jeggo’s side claim all three points they will go four points clear of PAOK and keep hold of second spot whereas a PAOK victory will see them leapfrog the Aussie’s side.

Heading to Japan, Mitch Langerak will be wearing the gloves for Nagoya Grampus as they face off against Consadole Sapporo on Saturday.

Langerak’s Grampus started their campaign with a 2-1 win at Fukuoka however they come up against a Sapporo side who smashed Yokohama 5-1 in their opening fixture.

Meanwhile, Thomas Deng will be aiming to make his season debut for Urawa Red Diamonds when they visit Sagan Tosu on Saturday afternoon.

The Socceroos defender was absent for Urawa as they posted a 1-1 draw in their first-round encounter.

In the English Championship, Harry Souttar’s Stoke City will be odds on favourites to take all three points from their clash against Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

A 90th minute penalty condemned the Potters to a 2-1 defeat against Swansea so the meeting against Wycombe who sit at the foot of the ladder could not come soon enough as they look to address their three-match losing streak.

Martin Boyle and Jackson Irvine will be starring for Hibernian when they make the trip to St. Johnstone on Saturday for their Scottish Premiership match.

The men from Easter Road have three matches left this season and sit in third with a four-point lead over Aberdeen below them.

Their chances of a third placed finish are also boosted by the fact that they have a game in hand over their rivals.

Elsewhere, Tom Rogic’s Celtic are on the road as they head to Dundee United in the early Sunday kick off.

In the Belgian Pro League, Trent Sainsbury and Kortrijk take on Royal Antwerp on Saturday.

The odds will be stacked against Sainsbury’s side who sit in 13th position while their opponents are challenging for the title in second spot.

Danny Vukovic could be in between the sticks for Genk when they host Club Brugge on Sunday.

The Socceroos shot stopper has had to settle for a place on the bench for his side’s last two matches which has seen them collect three points.

In Germany, Ajdin Hrustic will be hoping to come off the bench for Eintracht Frankfurt when they host Stuttgart on Saturday.

Mathew Leckie will be aiming to break back into the starting line-up for Hertha Berlin when they welcome Augsburg to the Olympiastadion.

Serbian-based Milos Degenek and his FK Crvena Zvezda have a date with Cukaricki in the SuperLiga on Sunday.

Degenek’s side are still undefeated after 24 rounds.

Over to Turkey where Aziz Behich’s Kayserispor have a meeting with high flying Hatayspor on Sunday.

Kenny Dougall and his Blackpool will be hosting Wimbledon in their League One affair on Saturday.
