Aussies Abroad Preview: Behich and Mooy meet, Mabil and Irvine return to action

It is another big weekend of Aussies Abroad action as Aaron Mooy and Aziz Behich face off in Scotland once more while the Czech First League and 2. Bundesliga return.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy's Celtic will be in action against Aziz Behich's Dundee United on Monday at 3am (AEDT) in matchday 23 of the Scottish Premiership. 

Mooy will be looking to build on a lethal run of form after returning from the Socceroos World Cup campaign which has seen him score four goals and register two assists. 

Most recently, Mooy bagged a brace as the Hoops cruised past second-tier Greenock Morton 5-0 in their Scottish Cup fourth-round encounter while Behich also scored as Dundee United beat Stirling University to advance in the competition. 


Celtic's relentless pursuit of the Scottish Premiership title sees them sit nine points ahead of closest challengers Rangers, on course to claim back-to-back championships. Meanwhile, United sit in 10th position, four points behind St. Johnstone in eighth. 

Cameron Devlin, Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson will all be available for selection as Heart of Midlothian travel to Livingston on Monday at  12:30am (AEDT). Garang Kuol could also be in line to make his second after being an unused substitute in Hearts' last outing. 

Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain are expected to be in action when St. Mirren face Mothewell on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). St. Mirren have not won in five matches so they will be looking to rediscover the winning form they amassed before the World Cup break. 

James Jeggo could also be in action when Hibernian face Aberdeen on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) as they look to bounce back from a 3-0 defeat to Hearts in their last outing. 

 
Ryan McGowan's St Johnstone also face Rangers on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) as they look to exact revenge on Rangers for their Scottish Cup exit last weekend. 

Elsewhere in Scotland, Dylan McGowan could also be in action when his Championship side Hamilton Academical face Partick Thistle on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Over to England, where Bailey Wright's Sunderland will be in FA Cup fourth-round action when they travel to London to face off against Fulham on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).  

After missing Stoke City's 4-0 win over due to a minor hip injury, Harry Souttar could be in line to return to the squad as Stoke face Stevenage FC on Monday at 1am (AEDT) in the FA Cup fourth-round.

Tom Rogic's West Bromwich Albion will also be in FA Cup fourth-round action when they take on Bristol City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Kenny Dougall could also be in action for Blackpool against Southampton FC on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) in the FA Cup fourth-round.

Elsewhere in the FA Cup fourth-round, Massimo Luongo could be in line to make his Ipswich Town FC debut against Burnley on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

In the Championship, Riley McGree is likely to feature when Middlesbrough look to return to winning ways when they host Watford on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Callum Elder's Hull City also face Queens Park Rangers on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) in the Championship.

Europe

Fresh from winning Young Australian of the YearAwer Mabil is in line to make his AC Sparta Prague and Czech First League debut when they travel to SK Sigma Olomouc on Sunday at 4am (AEDT). 

Sparta is the eighth club of Mabil’s career which has seen him play in the top flight in Denmark, Portugal, Turkey and Spain.

Sparta Prague is the most successful club in the Czech Republic with a record 36 league titles to their name, in Europe only Benfica (37), Olympiacos (47), Celtic (52), Rangers (55) and Linfield (56) have been crowned domestic Champions more times than Sparta.

Sparta currently sit in third position, eight points above SK Sigma Olomouc who occupy fourth. 

 

Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe could be in line to feature for St Pauli as the 2. Bundesliga returns with a matchup against Nurnberg on Sunday at 11:30pm (AEDT). 

St Pauli are 15th in the 2. Bundesliga and have not won in five matches while Nurnberg are 11th. 


In the Netherlands, Maty Ryan is in line to make his third start for AZ Alkmaar when they host FC Utrecht on Sunday at 7am (AEDT). 

After making his debut last weekend, Ryan lined up in goal on Thursday as AZ Alkmaar beat Go Ahead Eagles 4-1 to make it three wins in a row and close in on Feyenoord at the top of the Eredivisie. 

In Serie B, Fran Karacic is likely to feature again when Brescia Calcio face Como on Sunday at 12am (AEDT). 

Jason Davidson's KAS Eupen face Standard de Liège in the Belgian Pro League on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT).


In France's Ligue 1, Denis Genreau could be in line to make his first appearance after returning from injury when Toulouse FC face Strasbourg at 1am (AEDT) on Monday. 

In Ligue 2,  Alex Gersbach is likely to continue his good form when Grenoble Foot 38 face Bastia on Sunday at 4am (AEDT).

James Holland's FK Austria Wien also face First Vienna on Saturday at 1am (AEDT) in a friendly as they prepare for the Austrian Bundesliga to resume on February 13.

In Norway, Nick D'Agostino could pull on the Viking FK shirt for the first time alongside Gianni Stensness when they face Sandnes Ulf in a friendly on Saturday at 4am (AEDT). 

D'Agostino left Melbourne Victory this week to link up with his new club. The 24-year-old scored 17 goals in 42 appearances in all competitions for Victory. 

Asia & The Middle East

Over to Qatar, Trent Sainsbury played another 90 minutes as Al-Wakrah SC beat Al-Sailiya SC 5-0 on Wednesday. Sainsbury could feature again when Al-Wakrah face Al-Duhail on Tuesday at 12:35am (AEDT). 

In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya's Maccabi Haifa will be in action against Maccabi Bnei Reineh on Sunday at 12am (AEDT).

United Kingdom

In the English Championship, goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic could start when Huddersfield take on Coventry on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).


In League One, Caleb Watts could feature for Morecambe against Bristol Rovers on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). Watts also started and played 45 minutes in a 4-0 loss to Ipswich Town on Wednesday. 

In League two, Lachlan Brook's Crewe Alexandra take on Stockport on Wednesday at 6:45am (AEDT). 

In Premier League 2, Cameron Peupion's Brighton & Hove Albion U21 face Leicester City U21 on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT).  

Elsewhere in Premier League 2, Matt Dench could feature when Charlton Athletic U21 face Millwall U21 on Tuesday at 12am (AEDT). 

In Scotland, Lewis Miller could feature when Hibernian face Aberdeen on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Europe

In the Netherlands, Josh Rawlins' Jong FC Utrecht face De Graafschapon Tuesday at 6am (AEDT) in the Eerste Divisie. 

Dylan Ryan could also be in action in the Eerste Divisie when FC Den Bosch face MVV Maastricht on Saturday at 6am (AEDT). 

In Germany's 3. Liga, John Iredale could feature when SV Wehen Wiesbaden face Borussia Dortmund II on Monday at 12am (AEDT). 

Elsewhere in Germany, Alou Kuol could feature in VfB Stuttgart II friendly against FC Augsberg II on Sunday at 12am (AEDT) as they prepare for the resumption of the Regionalliga on March 4.
