Aussies Abroad Preview: McGree v Wright in Championship & Scottish Cup resumes

In Scotland, Cameron Devlin, Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson will all be available for selection as Heart of Midlothian face Hibernian in the Scottish Cup fourth round on Monday at 1am (AEDT). Garang Kuol could be in line to return after missing the midweek match against Aberdeen through illness.

Rowles and Devlin both started on Thursday morning as Hearts thumped Aberdeen 5-0 to march seven points clear of fourth-placed Livingston. Atkinson was also an unused substitute.

Devlin sealed the victory with his first Tynecastle goal in the 61st minute by letting fly and wrong-footing the goalkeeper after finding himself furthest forward. 

Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain are expected be in action when St. Mirren face Dundee on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) in the Scottish Cup fourth round. 

Aaron Mooy's Celtic consolidated top spot in the league on Thursday morning thanks to a 4-0 win at home to a St Mirren side featuring Baccus and Strain.

Baccus started and played 61 minutes while Strain started and played 84 minutes. Mooy came off the bench for Celtic in the 70th minute and claimed an assist.

Mooy's Celtic host Scottish Championship side Greenock Morton on Saturday at 11:15pm (AEDT) in the Scottish Cup.

The Bhoys enter the competition at the fourth round stage as Ange Postecoglou aims to get his hands on the trophy for the first time.

Mooy was also selected in last week's SPFL Team of the Week after an impressive display that booked Celtic's place in the Scottish League Cup final with a 2-0 win over Kilmarnock. 

Aziz Behich is anticipated to line up for Dundee United against Lowland Football League side Stirling University on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) in the Scottish Cup fourth round. 

Behich and United's tie against Livingston on Thursday morning was postponed due to a frozen pitch.

Ryan McGowan's St Johnstone also face Rangers on Sunday at 4:30am (AEDT) in their Scottish Cup fourth round tie. 

Elsewhere in Scotland, Dylan McGowan also made it into the SPFL team of the week alongside Mooy for after helping his new club to a massive three points with a 1-0 win over Greenock Morton.

His Championship side Hamilton Academical face Ross County on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) in the fourth Round of the Scottish Cup. Hamilton remains bottom of the table by four points but holds a game in hand.

In the English Championship, Riley McGree is likely to feature when Middlesbrough travel to Bailey Wright's Sunderland on Sunday at 11pm (AEDT).

The Boro will be looking to extend their impressive run of four after four wins in a row which saw them climb to fourth in the Championship. 


Harry Souttar should also be in Championship action when Stoke City face Reading on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).  

Tom Rogic's West Bromwich Albion take on Burnley on Saturday at 7am (AEDT).

The Baggies powered past National League outfit Chesterfield to book their place in the fourth-round of the FA Cup on Wednesday. 

Rogic scored West Brom's second goal in the 48th minute as he capitalised on a defensive error and finished from close range to score his second Baggies goal. 

Callum Elder's Hull City also face Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday at 6:45am (AEDT) in the Championship while Kenny Dougall could also be in action for Blackpool against Huddersfield on Sunday at 2am (AEDT), under newly appointed Manager Mick McCarthy.

In League One, Massimo Luongo will be in line to make his Ipswich Town FC debut against Oxford United on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Europe

In the Netherlands, Maty Ryan has obtained a visa and could make his debut for AZ Alkmaar when they host Fortuna Sittard on Monday at 2:45am (AEDT). 

In Italy's Serie A, Ajdin Hrustic will be up for selection when Hellas Verona host Lecce on Sunday at 1am (AEDT).

Verona will be looking to bounce back after going down to Inter Milan in their last outing. 

In Serie B, Fran Karacic is likely to feature again when Brescia Calcio face Frosinone Calcio on Monday at 2:15am (AEDT). 

James Jeggo and Jason Davidson's KAS Eupen face Belgian Pro League leaders Genk on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT).

Jeggo started and played 45 minutes in a 1-1 draw with Oud-Heverlee Leuven on Wednesday while Davidson came off the bench at half time. 


The Coupe de France Round of 32 kicks off this weekend where Alex Gersbach is likely to continue his good form when Grenoble Foot 38 face Stade Plabennecois on Sunday at 4am (AEDT).

According to Opta, Gersbach has created 11 scoring chances from set plays for Grenoble in the 2022/23 Ligue 2 season - the second most of any defender overall in the competition.

Awer Mabil started and wore the captain's armband in AC Sparta Prague's 2-1 loss to RB Salzburg on Wednesday. Sparta play a friendly against 1. FC Nürnberg on Sunday at 12am (AEDT). 


Joel King's Odense Boldklub's prepare for the resumption of the Danish Superliga on February 19 with a friendly match against FC Nordsjælland on Saturday at 11pm (AEDT).

Jackson Irvine and Connor Metcalfe could also get game time when St Pauli face FC Midtjylland in a friendly on Saturday at 11:30pm (AEDT) as they prepare for their 2. Bundesliga tie with Nurnberg on January 29. 

James Holland's FK Austria Wien also face FC Shakhtar Donetsk on Saturday at 2am (AEDT) in a friendly as they prepare for the Austrian Bundesliga to resume on February 13.

Over to Qatar, where Trent Sainsbury is in line to feature in Al-Wakrah SC's Qatar Stars League match against Al-Sailiya SC on Wednesday at 12:30am (AEDT).

In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya's Maccabi Haifa will be in action against Maccabi Tel Aviv FC on Tuesday at 5:30am (AEDT).

In the English Championship, goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic could start for the third match in a row when Huddersfield take on Hull City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).


First-choice goalkeeper Lee Nicholls had to go under the knife for a shoulder operation but it is not expected to be a long-term injury.

In League One, Caleb Watts could feature for Morecambe against Port Vale on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In League two, Lachlan Brook's Crewe Alexandra take on Stockport on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

In Premier League 2, Cameron Peupion's Brighton & Hove Albion U21 face Everton U21 on Monday at 3am (AEDT).

In the Netherlands, Josh Rawlins' Jong FC Utrecht face Den Haag on Sunday at 10:15pm (AEDT) in the Eerste Divisie. Rawlins played 90 minutes against Dordrecht in a 1-0 loss on Tuesday.

Dylan Ryan could also be in action in the Eerste Divisie when FC Den Bosch face Jong PSV on Saturday at 6am (AEDT). Ryan was an unused substitute in a 4-1 loss against FC Eindhoven on Tuesday.

In Germany's 3. Liga, John Iredale could feature when SV Wehen Wiesbaden face Hallescher FC on Monday at 12am (AEDT). 

Elsewhere in Germany, Alou Kuol could feature in VfB Stuttgart II friendly against FC Augsberg II on Sunday at 12am (AEDT) as they prepare for the resumption of the Regionalliga on March 4.
