Aussies Abroad: Mooy set for Scottish League Cup Final

Silverware is on the agenda for this weekend's Aussies Abroad action, with Aaron Mooy hoping to lift the Scottish League Cup.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy could return to the squad for Celtic's Scottish League Cup Final against Rangers on Monday at 2am (AEDT). 

Mooy was rested for Celtic's 4-0 win over Aberdeen last weekend after pulling up sore in training. 

With six goals and three assists in his last 10 games across all competitions, Mooy has been one of the most influential players in the country and he will be hoping to bring that form to the cup final. 


In the Scottish Premiership, Keanu Baccus and Ryan Strain's St Mirren take on Ryan McGowan's St Johnstone on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

Aziz Behich could also feature for Dundee United when they face off against Ross County on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

In the Scottish Championship, Dylan McGowan played another 90 minutes as Hamilton Academical beat Inverness CT 2-1 on Wednesday.

McGowan is likely to feature again when Hamilton face Queen's Park on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

In England, it does not get any easier for Harry Souttar's start to life in the Premier League. After suffering a 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford in their last match, Leicester City host league leaders Arsenal on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 


In the Championship, Riley McGree will hope his Middlesbrough side can make it six wins in a row when they face Tom Rogic's West Brom on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

McGree scored his sixth goal of the season in Boro's last outing as they moved within four points of second-placed Sheffield United in the race for promotion. 


Elsewhere in the Championship, Bailey Wright was unable to feature in Rotherham United's 2-1 win over Sunderland on Wednesday due to the loan rule where a player cannot play against his parent club. 

Wright could feature in Rotherham's trip to Swansea City on Tuesday at 7am (AEDT).

Kenny Dougall started and played 61 minutes as Blackpool lost 1-0 against Blackburn on Wednesday.

Dougall should be in line to feature again on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) when the Seasiders face Reading.

Callum Elder could also feature for Hull City on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) when they host Bristol City.

In League One, Massimo Luongo could be in line to feature for Ipswich Town FC again in a clash with MK Dons on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Europe

In Germany, both Connor Metcalfe and Jackson Irvine will be looking to continue their impressive run of form when  St Pauli host Hansa on Sunday at 11:30pm (AEDT) in the 2. Bundesliga. 

Metcalfe has scored two goals in three games while Irvine got on the scoresheet in their last 2. Bundesliga match.


In the Netherlands, Maty Ryan is likely to start again for AZ Alkmaar when they face Cambuur on Sunday at 6am (AEDT). 

AZ Alkmaar lost in their top-of-the-table clash last weekend against Feyenoord and have dropped to third in the Eredivisie, so will be looking to bounce back.

Awer Mabil is a strong chance to feature for AC Sparta Prague again when they travel to FC Trinity Zlín on Sunday at 1am (AEDT). 

In France's Ligue 1, Denis Genreau could feature again when Toulouse FC travel to Reims on Monday at 1am (AEDT).

In Serie B, Fran Karacic could feature when Brescia Calcio tackle Bari on Sunday at 12am (AEDT). 

Jason Davidson's KAS Eupen entertain Cercle Brugge in the Belgian Pro League on Sunday at 4:15am (AEDT). 

In Austria, James Holland could be in action for FK Austria Wien in the Austrian Bundesliga against Hartberg on Sunday at 3am (AEDT). 

In Norway, Nick D'Agostino could feature in another friendly against Lillestrøm SK on Sunday.

Asia & The Middle East

The K1 League kicks off in Korea with Harrison Delbridge's Incheon United in action against FC Seol on Saturday at 6:30pm (AEDT). 

Incheon will be hoping to break into the top three after a fourth-place finish last season. 


The Japanese J1 League continues on Sunday at 4pm (AEDT) for Thomas Deng's Albirex Niigata as they look to get another positive result against Sanfrecce. 

Mitch Langerak is also likely to be in action for Nagoya Grampus when they face Kyoto Sanga on Saturday at 6pm (AEDT). 

Mitch Duke will also be looking to make his second appearance for Machida Zelvia in the J2 League when they face Gunma on Sunday at 4pm (AEDT). 

In the Iranian Pro League, Ruon Tongyik could feature for Sanat Mes Kerman against Zob Ahan on Monday at 10:30pm (AEDT). 

Over to Qatar, where Trent Sainsbury played another 90 minutes as Al-Wakrah SC drew 0-0 with Umm Salal on Wednesday.  He is likely to feature again when they face Al-Shamal on Sunday at 2:55am (AEDT).


In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya may feature again when Maccabi Haifa face Beitar Jerusalem Football Club on Sunday at 5am (AEDT). 

The United States

The MLS season also kicks off with Milos Degenek likely to feature for Columbus Crew in their season opener against Philadelphia on Sunday at 11:30am (AEDT). 

Despite going all the way in 2020, the Crew have missed out on the Playoffs in three of the last four seasons so they will be looking to improve and re-establish themselves among the MLS elite.

Elsewhere in the US, Brad Smith could also be in action when Houston Dynamo FC face Cincinnati on Sunday at 11:30am (AEDT). 

Olyroos and Subway Young Socceroos

United Kingdom

In the English Championship, goalkeeper Nicholas Bilokapic could be in action again when Huddersfield face league leaders Burnley on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Bilokapic played 90 minutes and became the first goalkeeper to make an assist in the EFL Championship in 2023, with a long ball in Huddersfield's important 2-1 win over Birmingham last weekend.

It was Huddersfield's first victory since December 29th which moves them up one place in the table to 22nd and two points away from safety.

In League One, Caleb Watts may feature for Morecambe against Fleetwood on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) after he recently resumed full training following an injury layoff.

In League Two, Lachlan Brook was an unused subsisted in Crewe Alexandra's 0-0 draw with Walsall on Wednesday. Brook could be in action again when Crewe take on Rochdale on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Europe

In Germany, Alou Kuol may be in line to receive more first-team minutes for VfB Stuttgart when they face Schalke on Sunday at 4:30 am(AEDT) in the Bundesliga. Otherwise, he could feature for VfB Stuttgart II when they face SG Sonnenhof Großaspach on Saturday.

Dylan Ryan could also be in action in the Eerste Divisie when FC Den Bosch face Den Haag on Sunday at 10:15pm (AEDT). 

In Germany's 3. Liga, John Iredale could feature when SV Wehen Wiesbaden face Vfl Osnabruck on Sunday at 12am (AEDT).

  • In Italy's Serie A, Cristian Volpato could feature for AS Roma when they face Cremonese on Wednesday at 4:30am (AEDT). Volpato was an unused substitute in a 2-0 win over RB Salzburg on Friday in the Europa League.
  • In Serie B, Alessandro Circati may be in action when Parma face Frosinone on Saturday at 6:30am (AEDT).
  • In Greece, Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is a chance to feature for PAS Giannina against PAOK FC on Sunday at 4:00am (AEDT) in the Super League. 
  • In Croatia, Anthony Kalik may appear for Hajduk Split against Dinamo Zagreb on Monday at 1am (AEDT) in the Croatian First League.

United Kingdom

  • In the English Championship, Dean Bouzanis could feature when Reading face Blackpool on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 
  • In League One, Cameron Burgess could play when Ipswich Town FC face MK Dons on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 
  • Elsewhere in League One, goalkeeper Ashley Maynard-Brewer could be in action for Charlton Athletic against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 
  • In League Two, Tete Yengi could feature again for Northampton Town when they host Colchester on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 
  • In Premier League 2, Alexander Robertson could be in action when Manchester City U21 face Everton U21 on Sunday at 1am (AEDT).

  • In the J2 League, Stefan Mauk is likely to be in action when Fagiano Okayama face Shimizu S-Pulse on Sunday at 3pm (AEDT).

  • Elsewhere in the K1 League, Lachlan Jackson could be in action for Suwon Samsung Bluewings when they Aaron Calver's Gwangju on Saturday at 6:30pm (AEDT).
