Aussies Abroad: Mooy scores double in Celtic win, McGree scores volley & Old Firm approaches

After a double against Hibernian midweek, an old firm derby for Aaron Mooy's Celtic looms while Riley McGree scored a stunning volley and the La Liga returns for Awer Mabil.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, where Aaron Mooy's played 90 minutes and stared in Celtic's 4-0 win over Hibernian on Thursday as the Hoops marched to a 12th straight win in the Scottish Premiership 

Hibs made a positive start but Celtic took the lead through Mooy after the Socceroos midfielder fired home Daizen Maeda's deflected pass inside the area in the 28th minute.

Maeda then doubled Celtic's lead before Mooy added a third from the penalty spot in the 58th minute. 

Celtic have won 33 of the 37 league games they have played in the calendar year, drawing three times and losing just once. But their toughest test awaits.

Anticipation is now building ahead of a first meeting between Ange Postecoglou and new Rangers manager Michael Beale on Monday at 11:30pm (AEDT).

Celtic travel to Ibrox nine points clear but Rangers have four wins from four since the end of the World Cup break.

Elsewhere in Scotland, Cameron Devlin played 90 minutes and picked up another assist in Heart of Midlothian's 3-2 win over St. Johnstone on Thursday.

Kye Rowles played 90 minutes while Nathaniel Atkinson was an unused substitute. Ryan McGowan also started for St. Johnstone and played 70 minutes. 

Hearts Socceroos trio will be in action again when Hearts take on Hibernian on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT) in Matchday 20 of the Scottish Premiership. 

Keanu Baccus played 90 minutes in St Mirren's 1-1 draw with Livingston on Thursday. Ryan Strain also started and played 80 minutes. 

St Mirren will be in action against Kilmarnock on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT). 

Aziz Behich did not featured in Dundee United's big 3-0 win over Ross County on Thursday but he could be in action against St. Johnstone on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT). Mark Birighitti did, however, start in goal and keep a clean sheet against Ross County. 

In England, Harry Souttar could be in line for another start when Stoke City face league leaders Burnley on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT) in the Championship.

Stoke are unbeaten in their last three matches but face a tough task against a Burnley side who have won four games in a row and hold a three-point lead at the top of the table.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Riley McGree played 90 minutes and scored a stunning volley in a 2-1 win against Blackburn Rovers on Friday.

After his wonder goal at Norwich last month, this one was another highlight-reel strike to put Boro 2-1 in front. Hayden Hackney played a ball wide right and Marcus Forss headed into the penalty area where McGree then hit a first-time volley that flew into the net.

McGree will be in action again when Middlesbrough face off against Birmingham on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT).

Bailey Wright also started and played 90 minute minutes in Sunderland's 4-1 win over Wigan Atheltic on Friday. Sunderland take on Blackpool on Monday at 2am (AEDT).  

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic could feature on the bench when Huddersfield face Luton Town at 2am (AEDT) on Tuesday. Bilokapic was also on the bench in a 2-0 win against Rotherham. 

In League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman could also feature on the bench for Salford City when they face Bradford City on Monday at 2am (AEDT). Chapman was also on the bench in a 4-1 win over Grimsby Town on Friday.

Elsewhere in League two, Lachlan Brook's Crewe Alexandra take on Stockport on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT). 

Europe

In Spain's La Liga, Awer Mabil could be in action when Cádiz CF take on UD Almería in La Liga's return on Saturday at 5:15am (AEDT). 

Cadiz are in 19th position on the table but three points against Almería could lift them out of the relegation zone.

  • In France's Ligue 1, Denis Genreau could return to action with Toulouse FC when they face off against Ajaccio on Monday at 1am (AEDT). 
  • In France's Ligue 2, Alex Gersbach's Grenoble Foot 38 face Metz on Saturday at 7am (AEDT). 

United Kingdom

  • In the England Championship, Tom Rogic could be in action when West Brom take on Reading on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT). Rogic also started and played 55 minutes in a 2-0 win against Preston on Friday.
  • Elsewhere in the Championship, Callum Elder's Hull City face Birmingham on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT) and Wigan Athletic on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT).
  • Kenny Dougall could also be in action for Blackpool against Sunderland on Monday at 2am (AEDT). Dougall came off the bench in the 66th minute in a 2-1 loss to Sheffield United on Friday.
  • In League One, Ashley Maynard-Brewer could be in action for Charlton Athletic against Portsmouth on Monday at 2am (AEDT).  Maynard-Brewer also played in Charlton's 3-1 loss against Oxford United on Friday.
  • Elsewhere in League One, Caleb Watts could feature for Morecambe against Burton on Monday at 2am (AEDT). Watts came off the bench in the 80th minute in a 2-0 win over Accrington Stanley on Friday.
  • Jack Iredale's Bolton Wanderers face Lincoln City in League One on Saturday at 6:45am (AEDT) and on Tuesday against Barnsley at 2am (AEDT). 
  • In Scotland, Phillip Cancar could also feature for Livingston against Motherwell on Tuesday at 2am (AEDT). 

The Middle East

  • In the Israeli Premier League, Nikita Rukavytsya's Maccabi Haifa will be in action against Hapoel Be'er Sheva F.C.on Monday at 5:30am (AEDT).
