Aussies Abroad: Duke scores a double, Hrustic survives relegation scare

Before the pair link up with Socceroos camp, Mitch Duke scored a brace in the J2 League while Ajdin Hrustic and Hellas Verona FC overcame Spezia 3-1 in their relegation playoff to remain in the Serie A.

Starting in the J2 League, where Mitch Duke scored a brace as Machida Zelvia secured a 4-1 win that maintained their eight-point advantage at the top of the league. 

 

His first strike was a well-hit volley while the second was helped into the net via a deflection after he started the build-up play with a headed flick-on. 

Elsewhere in Japan, In the J1 League, Mitch Langerak was in goal for Nagoya Grampus on Sunday as they secured a 2-1 win against Avispa Fukuoka.

Elsewhere, Thomas Deng played another full match for Albirex Niigata in a 3-1 loss to Kyoto Sanga on Sunday. After a positive start to the campaign, Albirex have now slipped to 13th position in the league. 

In the K1 League, Harrison Delbridge also played a full game for Incheon United in a 0-0 draw with Suwon Bluewings on Sunday. After going six games without a loss, Incheon are ninth in the league.

In Italy, Ajdin Hrustic was an unused substitute for Hellas Verona FC as they secured their Serie A status with a 3-1 win over Spezia on Monday in the relegation play-off.

In Norway, where Gianni Stensness played a full game, Nick D’Agostino started and played 69 minutes and Subway Olyroo Patrick Yazbek came off the bench in the 58th minute to assist the final goal in Viking FK's 3-1 win over  Sarpsborg 08 FF on Monday.

Over to Istanbul, where Alexander Robertson's Manchester City secured the UEFA Champions League Final as Manchester City beat Inter Millan 1-0 on Sunday to complete a European treble. While the 20-year-old was not involved in the squad for the final, he did appear on the bench during the group stages.

In the MLS,  Brad Smith was an unused substitute for Houston Dynamo FC in a 4-0 win over LAFC on Sunday.

  • In the Spanish Primera Federación Final second leg, Ryan Edwards came on in the 62nd minute for Amorebieta in a 2-0 loss (3-2 aggregate win) against Racing de Ferrol on Sunday as they celebrated promotion to LaLiga 2. 
  • In the K1 League, Alex Grant played a full game for Pohang Steelers in a 1-1 draw with FC Seoul on Sunday.
  • Elsewhere in the K1 League, Lachlan Jackson played a full game for Suwon FC in a 3-1 loss to Daegu on Saturday. 
  • In the K2 League, Patrick Flottmann played a full game for Seongnam FC as they lost 2-1 to Seoul E-Land on Sunday.
  • In the USL Championship, Panos Armenakas started and played 68 minutes for his new club Phoenix Rising on Sunday in a 2-2 draw against Oakland Roots SC.
