EXPLAINED: How the Olyroos can still reach the Asian Cup U23 Quarter Finals

Heading into their final Group A match against Qatar at the AFC U23 Asian Cup 2024™, the Subway Olyroos know they must win against the hosts to have any chance of progressing to the Quarter Finals and keeping alive their qualification dreams for the Paris Olympics.

However, three points alone on Monday morning (AEST) will not be enough as destiny is now out of the their hands following a 0-0 stalemate with Jordan and 1-0 loss to Indonesia.

Tony Vidmar's men will need a favourable result in the other group clash between Jordan and Indonesia.

For Australia to advance they must defeat the already qualified Qatar and Jordan beat Indonesia, with the Aussies needing to better Jordan's result. For example, hypothetically, if Jordan win 1-0, Australia will need to win 2-0 to progress because they will prevail via tiebreaker rule number 5 - goal difference in all group matches.

If the other match ends in a draw, the Aussies will be eliminated due to Indonesia having the superior head-to-head advantage even if our goal difference finishes higher.
