Degenek makes winning start in Japan

Caltex Socceroos defender Milos Degenek has made a winning start to the J.League season with new club Yokohama F. Marinos overnight.

In a thrilling clash against giants Urawa Reds, Degenek’s side came from 2-1 down with just five minutes left to come away with a memorable 3-2 win.

The young defender – who is expected to be in the Caltex Socceroos squad for next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers – played a full match for the home side.

Degenek was the only Aussie to see game time in Japan, with both Nathan Burns and Mitch Duke left out of the match-day squads for their clubs.

Burns’ FC Tokyo also made a winning start, registering a 1-0 triumph at Kashima Antlers, while Duke’s Shimizu S-Pulse lost 1-0 against Vissel Kobe.

Over in England and Bradden Inman had a huge impact for Peterborough United in League One as they recorded a big 3-1 win over Rochdale.

Inman played a full game for the home side and set up Paul Taylor’s match-sealing goal six minutes from the end.
