A highly regarded holding midfielder, Aiden O'Neill began his career in the Premier League with Burnley, debuting during the 2016/17 season. Loan spells at League One sides Oldham Athletic and Fleetwood Town followed before returning to Australia in 2018, joining Central Coast Mariners and subsequently his hometown team Brisbane Roar. In 2020, he signed with Melbourne City and displayed his palpable quality. His strong form with City in 2022/23 earned a call-up to the Socceroos and made an immediate impression, earning a starting debuting against Ecuador in Sydney.
