Regarded as one of the country’s brightest prospects, Jonny Yull is relishing the chance to represent Australia for the first time.
The 17-year-old is the youngest member in Trevor Morgan’s 23-player squad for the upcoming AFC U-20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023™.

Born in England, Yull moved down under with his parents when he was only a toddler.
Yull has never represented Australia at youth level before because of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has however, been involved in a camp in the nation’s capital last year.
So when he received the call, he was understandably delighted.
“I was happy, I've never been to a tournament before," Yull admitted to Football Australia Media.
"So it'll be a good experience to go to one of these and it will be a proud moment to play, so hopefully.
“I've been to a little week camp in Canberra, but I haven't been to a full one, so it'll be good to meet everyone and see how see how it is.”
A gifted, ambidextrous midfielder, Yull has been a vital cog with the Young Reds – Adelaide United’s youth team – for the past three seasons.
He possesses excellent technical ability, picks up space between the lines and is an accurate passer of the ball.
Yull has also accumulated four senior games and became the third youngest Red to debut for the club in January 2021 as a 15-year-old.
Now he gets the opportunity to test himself against some of the brightest talents in Asia, something he is highly anticipating with his sights firmly set on qualifying for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Indonesia 2023™.
“Obviously, it would just be good to see where all of us are at when we play against other teams and see how we come up against them and obviously we want to win,” he insisted.
“But you know, I just hope we can do well, and hopefully get through to the World Cup if we win a few games."
With the Subway Young Socceroos pitted against Vietnam, Iran and Qatar, Yull is expecting tough matches but is equally confident the team can be successful.
He admitted the squad can take a leaf out of the Subway Socceroos and the togetherness and belief they demonstrated at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar last year as they reached the Round of 16.
“I think, obviously, they’ll be good opponents, all of them,” Yull continued.
“In a country that’s obviously pretty far away from us and it will be tough to beat the teams in the group.
“But I think even in like the World Cup, in the first team (the Subway Socceroos), you could see they can do anything against any team if everyone's just together and plays together.”
Yull admitted he has briefly asked his fellow Reds teammate in Bernardo about what to expect in Uzbekistan but had not discussed it in great detail.
Bernardo experienced the U-23 Asian Cup tournament last year playing for the Subway Olyroos, incidentally in the same country.
“I mean obviously just like asking how it is in Uzbekistan, and stuff like that,” he said.
“What the pitches and stuff are like and the temperature, what it will be like, but not too much else.”
