When are your Caltex Socceroos in action this weekend?

Mat Ryan and Aaron Mooy have the Seagulls flying in the Premier League.

This weekend, Brighton and Hove Albion's Australian duo will aim to continue the club's great start to the season in a home clash against early strugglers Southampton.

New Seagulls head coach Graham Potter has put four points out of a possible six on the board, with Caltex Socceroos goalkeeper Ryan instrumental in only conceding one goal from their two games.

Mooy, a loan signing from relegated Huddersfield Town, is still awaiting a full debut but made his first appearance at the AMEX Stadium in last week’s 1-1 draw against West Ham United from the bench.

Southampton have conceded five goals and are yet to record a point from their two matches and Caltex Socceroos teammates Ryan and Mooy will aim to keep the Saints from getting off the mark at midnight on Sunday 25 August.

Luongo and Wednesday out to continue strong start

Massimo Luongo’s Sheffield Wednesday are one of the form teams in the Championship and the Owls will aim to stay top of the perch when they travel to Preston North End at midnight on Sunday 25 August.

Luongo will want to add to his three substitute appearances for this season at Deepdale, while at the same time, Jackson Irvine’s Hull City face a Bristol City side expected to once again be without injured club captain Bailey Wright.

In League One, Mark Milligan’s Southend United go in search of their first points of the season at high-flying Wycombe Wanderers and Harry Souttar’s Fleetwood Town look to continue their decent opening when Accrington Stanley come to Highbury Stadium. That all goes off at midnight on Sunday 25 August.

Leckie and Borrello look to build on strong starts

Hertha Berlin kicked off their German Bundesliga season with a roller-coaster 2-2 draw against champions Bayern Munich last week and, this week, Mathew Leckie’s side entertain Wolfsburg in their 2019/20 home opener.

The Wolves, who finished sixth last season, got off to a winning start against Cologne, 2-1, but The Old Lady will provide a stern test in the German capital if Ante Covic’s side can repeat last weekend’s performance on Monday 26 August at 2am.

One-cap Caltex Socceroo Brandon Borrello made his Bundesliga debut for SC Freiburg in the round one 3-0 win against Mainz. 

Christian Streich’s team will be determined to back up that result when they travel to newly-promoted Paderborn 07 on Saturday 24 August at 11.30pm.

Young Aussie John Iredale scored his fourth goal in five games for Wolfsburg II in last week’s 2-0 win against Werder Bremen II in the fourth tier of German football. 

This week, the Wolfsburg reserve side host Eintracht Norderstedt on Saturday 24 August at 9pm.

Behich to make home bow in Turkey

Aziz Behich is set to play his first game in front of the Istanbul Basaksehir fans when the Turkish Super Lig 2018/19 runners-up face city rivals Fenerbahce on Sunday 25 August at 4.45am. 

Over in Denmark, Awer Mabil’s FC Midtjylland seek to get back to winning ways after the Wolves relinquished their perfect record in a draw against Hobro on Monday, after winning five from five.

The Danish Cup holders travel to SonderjyskE at midnight on Monday 26 August, while Mustafa Amni and Alex Gersbach’s AGF make the trip to face 10-time champions Brondby IF at the same time.

Can hot shot Taggart be stopped?

He’s way out in front of in the K-League Golden Boot race and Adam Taggart will be determined to add to his 16-goal tally for Suwon Bluewings.

The K-League’s seventh-placed side play away against tenth-placed Gyeongnam FC on Friday 23 August at 8.30pm. Look out for Terry Antonis in that one as well.

Stateside, Brad Smith’s Seattle Sounders make the short journey from Washington to Oregon to face the Portland Timbers in a Major League Soccer Cascadia Derby on Saturday 24 August at midday.
