'We've set that bar now and we can't drop below it': Behich hoping Australia can build momentum following World Cup

Aziz Behich spoke to the media at Mrs Macquarie's Chair in Sydney ahead of Australia's match against South American outfit Ecuador at CommBank Stadium on Friday night.

Behich has been in stellar form with club side Dundee United in Scotland this campaign and was a key contributor at the FIFA World Cup, playing every minute of all four games.

Behich on Graham Arnold re-signing with the Subway Socceroos...

Arnie's (Graham Arnold) been great for us, what he's achieved with the group and the players he's brought in and blooded in the younger ones and mixed it with us experienced guys has been great. So you know, in seeing him re-sign and gave me a call that he's sticking around, it was good news for us as a playing group, but think it's good news for Australian football in general.

Behich on maintaining strong standards and continuing to build...

I think that's what Arnie sees and I don't think he would have stuck around if he didn't believe that we can do much more. We've showed now that we can compete against anyone in the world, you know, we took the champions to the final wire of the game. Like I said this is obviously a homecoming, but we're up against a good opposition in two games. So we've set that bar now and we can't drop below it.

Behich on being a new FIFA cycle and challenging for the AFC Asian Cup...

This is a new cycle, a lot of new faces, like I said, it starts with these Ecuador games, that we have to set the bar high and raise the level another notch. It's all well and good what we did at the World Cup, but that's all in the past. Now we've got to put that behind us and focus on these two games and obviously we're going to go challenge for the title come Asian Cup time.
