Taggart secures Perth return

Socceroos striker Adam Taggart is thrilled after signing with Perth Glory on a three-and-a-half year deal.

Taggart returns to his hometown club from J1 League outfit Cerezo Osaka for a third stint and will be able to play once the January transfer window opens.

The 29-year-old scored 22 goals in 48 appearances with Glory across his two previous spells with the Club.

Taggart has been overseas the last three seasons since moving from Brisbane Roar and enjoyed success at Suwon Samsung Bluewings in Korea, winning the K-League 1 Golden Boot in 2019 with 20 goals.

In 2021, he moved to J-League side Cerezo Osaka where he netted 10 goals over two years in all competitions.

Taggart, who has scored six goals in 17 caps for Australia, was delighted with the move.

“It was always the plan to eventually come back and just seems like the right time now and with a fantastic group of boys, fantastic staff, and you know a lot of people around the club who I know really well," he said at his press conference.

"... I'm just buzzing that it's over the line and and it's actually able to happen."

While playing overseas in the top-flight leagues in Korea and Japan, Taggart added: "I learned a lot about myself, learned a lot about football, improved and just worked really hard over the past four and a half years that I was away and experience some fantastic moments, a lot of success and a lot of learning.

"I'd like to think that I've come back a more mature player, more experienced player and that's more so the role that I want to play here now to help the young boys and produce my best football for Perth Glory."

The talisman spoke about how the move came about and thanked Cerezo for being understanding in wanting to return to his boyhood club.

"There was an opening at the club, and I just finished my season over in Japan," he explained.

"Things happen pretty quickly and, and happened pretty smoothly. Cerezo my club back in Japan were really, really good about it, really supportive as they have been the whole time since I've been there.

"So I've got nothing but good things to say about them and again really grateful that they've allowed me to come and fulfil a dream of playing for my hometown club again."
