Socceroos Abroad: Irvine and Metcalfe's top-of-the-table clash

St. Pauli's lead at the top of Bundesliga 2 is under threat as Jackson Irvine and Conner Metcalfe's side compete in a top-of-the-table clash this weekend.

Here’s what’s coming up.

Subway Socceroos

Starting in the English Championship, where Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played a full game and Massimo Luongo (cap #571) came off the bench in the 73rd minute on Wednesday for Ipswich Town in a last-minute 4-3 win over Rotherham. The result leaves Ipswich in equal second on the ladder.


They return to action on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) against Birmingham City.

Elsewhere in the league, Samuel Silvera (cap #634) and Riley McGree (cap #609) will be hoping to continue their positive form for Middlesbrough alongside Tom Glover when they face Plymouth Argyle on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Silvera scored his sixth goal in all competitions in their last outing after latching onto McGree's through ball as Boro defeated leaders Leicester City.

Also, Harry Souttar's (cap #606) Leicester City face Leeds United in a top-of-the-table clash on Saturday at 7am (AEDT).

In League One, Gethin Jones (cap #639) played a full game for Bolton Wanderers on Wednesday in a 2-1 win over Cambridge United. 

They return to action on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) against Blackpool. 

Elsewhere in League One, Kusini Yengi (cap #638) is likely to feature for Portsmouth FC when they face Charlton on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) while Callum Elder (cap #614) could feature again for Derby County when they face Barnsley on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).

There is also a possibility that Joe Gauci (cap #631) could appear on the bench again for Aston Villa when they host Nottingham Forrest on Sunday at 2am (AEDT).


Over to Saudi Arabia, Aziz Behich (cap #547) played another full game for Al-Nassr FC on his home debut in the Asain Champions League on Thursday as they progressed to the quarter-finals with a 2-0 win over Al Feiha thanks to goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Otavio. 

He could appear again against Al-Shabab on Monday at 4am (AEDT). 


Craig Goodwin (cap #562) could also appear in Al-Wehda's clash with Al-Ittihad in the Saudi Pro League on Tuesday at 4:00am (AEDT).

Over to Scotland, where Keanu Baccus (cap #628) is likely to play for St Mirren when they face Ryan McGowan's (cap #546) St Johnstone on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 

Elsewhere in the Scottish Premiership, Martin Boyle (cap #599), Lewis Miller (cap #635), and Olyroo Nectarios Triantis should line up again for Hibernian when they face Dundee on Sunday at 2am (AEDT). 


Our trio of Heart of Midlothian Socceroos Cameron Devlin (cap #625), Kye Rowles (cap #622), Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620), and Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof should feature against Rangers on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) as well.

In the Scottish Championship, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) should start in the centre of defence for Hamilton Academical as the side continue their promotion push when they face third-placed Alloa Athletic on Sunday 2am (AEDT). 

Over to Germany, where Jackson Irvine (cap #568) and Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) should feature for St. Pauli when they travel to Holstein Kiel on Saturday at 4:30am (AEDT) in a top-of-the-table clash in the 2. Bundesliga. St. Pauli hold a narrow three-point lead over Holstein so they can't afford to drop points here.

Elsewhere in the 2. Bundesliga, John Iredale could play for SV Wehen Wiesbaden against Paderborn on Saturday at 4:30am (AEDT).

In the Netherlands, Mathew Ryan (cap #555) is expected to be in goal for AZ Alkmaar as they look to keep fourth spot when they face Ajax on Monday at 2:45am (AEDT) in the Eredivisie. Alkmaar are three points ahead of Ajax in a Europa League qualifier position. 

Staying in the Eredivisie, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) could get more minutes with his new club when Heracles Almelo face Utrecht on Saturday at 6am (AEDT).

Garang Kuol (cap #627) could also feature for FC Volendam when they host Heerenveen on Monday at 6am (AEDT).

In Belgium, Jordan Bos (cap #632) is likely to play again for Westerlo when they face STVV on Sunday at 4:15am (AEDT). 


Aiden O'Neill (cap #629) could also feature for Standard Liege when they face league leaders Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgium First Division A on Monday at 4:30am (AEDT).

Jason Davidson (cap #545) is also likely to appear for KAS Eupen as they look to break a four-game losing streak when they face Cercle Brugge on Monday at 5:15am (AEDT).

Over to France, where Denis Genreau (cap #610) could return from a groin injury for Toulouse in their Ligue 1 match against LOSC at 1am (AEDT) on Monday.

In Italy, Alessandro Circati (cap #637) is likely to start again when Parma take on Como on Sunday at 2:15am (AEDT) in Serie B.

In Croatia, Fran Karacic (cap #607) could feature for NK Rudes in the Croatian Football League when they travel to Istra 1961 on Saturday at 3:10am (AEDT).

James Holland (cap #508) is likely to feature for Austria Wien when they face Rapid Wein in the Austrian Bundesliga on Monday at 3am (AEDT).

The J1 League returns for a new season this weekend and Mitch Duke (cap #559) could feature in the competition for the first time since 2018 when recently promoted Machida Zelvia host Gamba Osaka on Saturday at 5pm (AEDT).

Thomas Deng (cap #598) could be in action for Albirex Niigata as they travel to Sagan Tosu on Saturday afternoon at 4pm (AEDT).

In India, Jason Cummings (cap #626) and Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) could feature for Mohun Bagan again when they face Odisha on Saturday at 10:30pm (AEDT). Cummings bagged a goal and an assist, while Petratos also got on the scoresheet last weekend.

Tomi Juric (cap #561) played 70 minutes and scored another goal for NorthEast United on Thursday as they beat Goa 2-0.


Finishing in Thailand, where Kenny Dougall (cap #608) could appear again for Buriram United when they face Police Tero FC on Saturday at 10pm (AEDT).

In the Football League Trophy semi-finals, Nicholas Bilokapic was an unused substitute for Peterborough United on Wednesday in a 3-0 win over Blackpool.


He is in contention to appear on Saturday at 11pm (AEDT) against Cambridge United in League One. 

As mentioned above, Nectarios Triantis should line up again for Hibernian when they face Dundee on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) while Calem Nieuwenhof is also likely to feature against Rangers on Sunday at 2am (AEDT) as well.

In the Polish I Liga, Louis D'Arrigo could appear against Znicz Pruszków on Monday morning at 1am (AEDT).
