Socceroos Abroad: Bos scores, Irvine assists, Ryan's clean sheet

Jordan Bos scored a goal in Belgium while Jackson Irvine registered another assist and Maty Ryan kept a clean sheet in another big weekend of Socceroos Abroad action.

Starting in Belgium with Jordan Bos (cap #632), who played a full game and scored a spectacular long-range consultation goal in KVC Westerlo's 3-1 loss to KV Mechelen on Saturday. 


After three straight losses, Westerlo are 11th in the league. 

Elsewhere, Jason Davidson (cap #545) played a full game for K.A.S. Eupen as they beat STVV 1-0 on Monday to end a six-game losing streak in the league.

Over to the 2. Bundesliga in Germany, where Jackson Irvine (cap #568) played a full game and registered an assist as St. Pauli beat Hertha Berlin 2-0 on Sunday to bounce back from defeat in their last outing to retain their five-point lead at the top of the table. Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) also started and played 89 minutes. 

AFC Asian Cup Qatar 2023 squad member John Iredale came off the bench in the 67th minute in the 2. Bundesliga as SV Wehen Wiesbaden drew 1-1 with Hannover 96 on Saturday.

Moving to the Netherlands’ Eredivisie, where Mathew Ryan (cap #555) was in goal for AZ Alkmaar as he kept his ninth clean sheet of the season in a 4-0 win over Excelsior Rotterdam on Sunday. 

AZ currently occupies fourth and will earn a Europa Conference League qualifier if they hold onto their position.

Following his first goal for the club last weekend, Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) played another full game for Heracles Almelo in a 3-0 loss to Feyenoord on Monday.

Finally, Garang Kuol (cap #627) was an unused substitute for FC Volendam in a 1-1 draw with PEC Zwolle on Monday.

In India, Jason Cummings (cap #626) played 67 minutes and scored a goal while Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) played a full game and also found the back of the net in Mohun Bagan SG's 3-1 win over East Bengal on Monday.

Over to England, where Cameron Burgess (cap #633) played a full game while Massimo Luongo (cap #571) was also substituted in the 76 minute in a last-gasp 2-1 loss to Cardiff City on Saturday night. The loss leaves Ipswich in third, four points off the top. 

Elsewhere in the championship, Riley McGree (cap #609) played 90 minutes while Samuel Silvera (cap #634) came off the bench in the 78th minute as Middlesbrough beat QPR 2-0 on Sunday. Tom Glover was an unused substitute. 

Also, Harry Souttar (cap #606) was an unused sub for Leicester City in a 2-2 draw with Hull City on Sunday.

In League One, Gethin Jones (cap #639) played a full game for Bolton Wanderers on Sunday in a 2-2 draw with Exeter City.

Elsewhere in League One, Kusini Yengi (cap #638) came off the bench in the 74th minute for Portsmouth FC as they drew 0-0 with Blackpool on Sunday.

In the Scottish Cup quarter-finals, Martin Boyle (cap #599) started and was substituted in the 45th minute due to landing on his head after an aerial tussle with Rangers defender John Souttar in a 2-0 loss on Monday. The Socceroos winger was taken to hospital, with the club later declaring he was in a stable condition. Olyroo Nectarios Triantis also started and played 81 minutes. 

In the Scottish League One, Dylan McGowan (cap #590) played a full game for Hamilton Academical as they beat FC Edinburgh 1-0 on Sunday.

Fran Karacic (cap #607) played a full game in the Croatian Football League as NK Rudeš lost 3-0 to NK Lokomotiva on Sunday.

In the Austrian Bundesliga, James Holland (cap #508) was an unused substitute for Austria Wien as they ended the regular season with a 2-0 win against WSG Tirol on Monday, but it was not enough to move them out of the relegation round. 

Over to Asia, where Mitchell Duke (cap #559) came off the bench in the 86th minute as Machida Zelvia beat the league leaders Kashima Antlers 1-0 on Saturday in the J. League. The win continues Machida's unbeaten start to the season and leaves them in third position. 

Also in the competition, Thomas Deng (cap #598) played a full game for Albirex Niigata on Saturday as they beat Mitchell Langerak's (cap #566) Nagoya Grampus 1-0.

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) played a full game for Buriram United as they drew 1-1 with Chonburi on Sunday in the Thai League.

To Qatar now, where Trent Sainsbury (cap #574) played a full game for Al-Wakrah as they beat Al-Duhail 2-1 on Monday.

As mentioned earlier, Nectarios Triantis started and played 81 minutes as Hibernian lost 2-0 to Rangers on Monday in the Scottish Cup.

In Denmark, Tyrese Francois played a full game for Vejle Boldklub in a 1-0 loss to Odense Boldklub on Monday.

Nicholas Bilokapic was on the bench for Peterborough United’s 3-1 win over Burton on Sunday in League One. 

Jahce Novello was an unused substitute for Cosenza in a 0-0 draw with Cittadella on Monday in Serie B.

In the K-League 1's, Alexandar Popovic played another full game for Gwangju FC as they beat Gangwon 4-2 on Sunday.

Louis D'Arrigo came off the bench in the 93rd minute for Lechia Gdansk in a 2-1 win over Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała in Poland's I liga on Sunday.
