Smith signs for Cardiff City on loan

Socceroos fullback Brad Smith has joined Championship side Cardiff City on loan from Bournemouth.

The 25-year-old left back has not featured for the Premier League outfit this season, after enjoying a successful loan spell with Major League Soccer (MLS) side Seattle Sounders.

Smith helped the Sounders clinch the MLS Cup Final last November and will now remain with Cardiff until the end of the season.

“We are delighted to get the deal over the line,” said Cardiff boss Neil Harris.

“You can look at his CV and see the pedigree.

“We’ve been looking for a left-back to compete with Joe Bennett. Someone attack-minded, with pace and energy to get up and down the pitch. Brad ticks those boxes."

Smith took part in training yesterday but Harris said the ex-Liverpool product would be eased into action having not played any football over the past eight weeks.

“We’re really pleased to have him on board," Harris continued.

"His character references have been first class and he was desperate to come to Cardiff. I only want players who want to play for this club.”

Cardiff are 12th in the Championship.
