'Coming along really well': Maty Ryan's injury update

While he admits it may go down to the wire, Socceroos goalkeeper Maty Ryan is determined to be fit for his nation's upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

With Australia set to commence their vital round three Asian Qualifiers in early September, Ryan is currently on the comeback trail from a knee injury suffered in training for his new club Real Sociedad.

Within weeks of joining the La Liga outfit, Ryan picked up the knock which required surgery.

Speaking to a group of Australian journalists, the shot-stopper provided an update on how his comeback is progressing.

"It's coming along really well... I've obviously been getting stuck into rehab," he said.

"They originally told me four weeks from when I had the surgery done, but I've tried to come back earlier than that and how its gone so far, I think I'm on track.

"It's sort of a day by day experience at the moment to see how you react to training, but given there are no major setbacks I think it will be really soon that I am able to get back out on the pitch and train with the team - hopefully within two weeks I will say."

Ryan, who feels he gained a lot from his experiences on loan at English Premier League side Arsenal, started two of Australia's four June FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Having represented his nation at two FIFA World Cups, he knows the importance of approaching the final stage of qualifying in the right way - and is itching to be involved.

"Part of my motivation to get back is obviously for that Socceroos game (v China on September 2)," Ryan enforced.

There is an important phase coming up for us and I have set my eye on being fit for that. I am confident that I will be fit for it, having no major setbacks or anything like that.

"I want to be out and playing every week and that's my motivation, just to work hard."
