Rodgers provides Arzani update as Celtic done deal nears

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has spoken about the club’s hopes of signing Caltex Socceroo Daniel Arzani after the youngster confirmed his transfer to Manchester City.

Arzani, 19, joined the Premier League club on a permanent transfer — subject to international clearance — and the NAB Young Footballer of the Year is reportedly set to immediately join Scottish giants Celtic on loan.

Sky Sports UK reports the exciting young attacker will be set for a two-year loan stint with the 49-time Scottish league champions, with Rodgers all but confirming the transfer in a press conference on Thursday.

"He (Arzani) has completed on the Man City side, virtually most of it is completed on our side,” Rodgers said.

"He has been up here today so, like I say, we hope for that to complete over the next few days.

"He hasn't done anything since his last game with Australia a little while back so he is going to have to come in and adjust and get up to speed before we can even consider him for a game”.

Arzani was spotted in the stands as a spectator in Celtic’s 1-1 draw with AEK Athens midweek, fuelling more speculation over his transfer links.

The former Melbourne City ace had also received public praise from Rodgers, who lauded him “another exciting young talent”.

The former Liverpool FC manager added at the time: “We will see if we can get that organised in the next few days.”
