Poll: Vote for your Socceroos XI to take on Denmark

The Socceroos are set to carry a host of selection questions into their clash with Denmark on Thursday evening.

An impressive collective performance first up against France may see coach Bert van Marwijk persist with the same line up that were narrowly beaten by Les Bleus on Saturday.

But with stars like Massimo Luongo and Tim Cahill spared against the European heavyweights, could the Dutchman be set to ring in changes to face the Scandinavian nation?

REACTION:  'I hope they go through': France praise for Socceroos

EQUATION: What Denmark v Peru result means for Socceroos in Group C

It's time for you to decide! Who would you pick for the starting XI for the Socceroos' when they take on Denmark at the FIFA World Cup™?

GOALKEEPER

It was another fine FIFA World Cup™ cameo from Mathew Ryan in the Socceroos' 2-1 defeat to France. The Brighton and Hove albion man pulled off five saves in total to keep Les Bleus at bay, and barring any late fitness concerns Ryan looks set to continue between the sticks ahead of Danny Vukovic and Brad Jones.

RIGHT BACK

Despite conceding the penalty with a sliding challenge on Antoine Griezmann, it was an otherwise excellent tournament debut for Josh Risdon against France, who was earmarked for praise by van Marwijk himself. Milos Degenek also offers a valuable and versatile option for the Socceroos.

CENTRE BACK PAIRING

Trent Sainsbury delivered 'one of the great Socceroos performances' against France, and the Australian vice-captain will be among the first name on the team sheets as the Socceroos prepare for Denmark. Mark Milligan was also in fine form against Les Bleus, following Sainsbury's lead with an offering of commendable backs to the wall defending. Sainsbury and Milligan have started Australia's last three fixtures, but Matthew Jurman and Milos Degenek provide solid reinforcements if van Marwijk opts to switch things around at the back on Wednesday.

LEFT BACK

Aziz Behich enjoyed a fine match down the left hand side against France, with the fullbacks combination with Robbie Kruse and all-round energy providing Australia with a reliable outlet in transitional phases. Behich has completed the 90 minutes in the Socceroos last seven outings but James Meredith offers an alternative solution for the challenge of Denmark.

CENTRE MIDFIELD PAIRING

Mile Jedinak marked his return to the starting XI against France with a coolly-dispatched penalty to open Australia's account for the tournament. Aaron Mooy enjoyed a solid performance against the 1998 Champions, stroking the ball around with usual elegance and working tirelessly alongside the Socceroos skipper in a midfield pivot.

Massimo Luongo will be pressing his claim to feature in that deeper midfield duo harder than ever after his omission against France: could the 25-year-old's ball-carrying ability and forward passing ability earn him a start in Wednesday's must-win clash? Jackson Irvine is the final piece of van Marwijk's midfield jigsaw. The Hull City midfielder was the difference-maker in Australia's friendly against Hungary, and his tireless work ethic and athleticism could be priceless against an experienced Danish midfield.

ATTACKING MIDFIELD

If van Marwijk overlooks Jackson Irvine for one of the two deeper-lying midfield positions, the Dutchman may well be considering handing the midfielder a role in tandem with the side's attacking outlets. It would signal a shift in strategy for the Socceroos, with Tom Rogic normally Australia's chief playmaker . Rogic played 71 minutes against France before being substituted for Irvine, but could van Marwijk be tempted by Dimitri Petratos? The Newcastle Jets star is yet to feature at FIFA World Cup™ but could prove to be a wildcard selection that catches Denmark by surprise.

RIGHT WING

Mathew Leckie was once again solid from the right flank against France and proved to be a counter-attacking outlet. After a selfless 64 minutes leading the line against France, Andrew Nabbout could offer something different from the flank, while Daniel Arzani and Dimitri Petratos complete van Marwijk's options on the right wing.

LEFT WING

Robbie Kruse caused France a variety of problems from the left wing on Saturday, with his combination with Aziz Behich offering a consistent attacking outlet. If van Marwijk is pondering an attacking reshuffle, Daniel Arzani could be a prime candidate to come in for Kruse, with Arzani's ability to step inside from the left already shown to be an effective attacking weapon in his brief tenure in the Socceroos squad.

Andrew Nabbout and Dimitri Petratos would also present two other right-footed options on the left wing if van Marwijk opts to rotate his offensive stocks against Denmark.

STRIKER

Andrew Nabbout toiled hard for little attacking reward against France, but after spearheading the Australian attack in his last three matches the 25-year-old could be rewarded again with a start against Denmark. Tomi Juric made an impressive cameo after coming on for Nabbout midway through the second half, with the FC Luzern man's physicality and ability to orchestrate play with back to goal making him a valuable focal point should Juric lead the line against Denmark.

Tim Cahill didn't mark his fourth FIFA World Cup™ with minutes against France, but the veteran striker could yet be unleashed on a Denmark defence that has proven hugely difficult to break down in recent matches.

Finally, Jamie Maclaren provides another alternative to front the Australian offensive on Wednesday night, and his predatory instincts and willingness to stretch defences could prove invaluable as the Socceroos look to keep their tournament chances alive.
