Australia will meet Tunisia for just the third time when they face off in their second match of Group D at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™.

The Subway Socceroos first played the North African side in an international friendly in October 1997 and would later encounter each other eight years later at the FIFA Confederations Cup in Germany.

1997 | 3-0 win | International Friendly

The Stade El Menzah in Tunis would host the inaugural match between Australia and Tunisia. The visitors made the perfect start when Aurelio Vidmar scored inside a minute. He later assisted Mark Viduka with the striker cleverly dinking his finish with the outside of his right foot over the onrushing goalkeeper. Matthew Bingley then added a third for Terry Venables’ squad with 14 minutes remaining.

2005 | 2-0 loss | FIFA Confederations Cup

Following narrow defeats to Argentina and Germany, Australia’s would play Tunisia in its final match of Group A of the FIFA Confederations Cup at the Zentralstadion in Leipzig. With both sides winless heading into the game, it would be the Eagles of Carthage who secured the 2-0 win. Francileudo Santos scored a goal in each half with two opportunistic efforts, as Tunisia finished the standings in third spot, consigning the Green and Gold to the foot of the table.
