2007 | 3-1 loss | International Friendly

Australia hosted Denmark at the home of Queens Park Rangers, Loftus Road, for its inaugural clash against the Nordic nation. Before Australia could really get settled, Danish legend Jon Dahl Tomasson dispatched a brilliant curling effort from outside the box leaving Michael Petkovic helpless in goal inside five minutes. Daniel Jensen then climbed highest to guide his header into the top corner off Dennis Rommedahl’s accurate cross. Tomasson then finished off an intricate passing move with a close-range tap in 10 minutes later in the 38th minute. Brett Emerton managed to pull a goal back for the Green and Gold via a stunning free-kick five minutes from time, though it was merely a consolation.

At the time it was the striker’s seventh goal in 18 caps to secure the friendly victory.

2012 | 2-0 loss | International Friendly

Almost two years to the day they last crossed paths, Australia and Denmark would meet again this time at Parken Stadion in Copenhagen. Daniel Agger opened the scoring from the penalty spot just beyond the half hour stage and the home side would double their advantage midway through the second half. Andreas Bjelland reacted quickest to Jores Okore’s initial blocked header from the corner to smash in his attempt on the six-yard box.

2018 | 1-1 draw | FIFA World Cup

Australia squared off with Denmark on Matchday 2 at the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018™. Nicolai Jorgensen flicked a ball into the patch of Christian Eriksen and the midfielder unleashed an emphatic stinging left-footed strike on the half-volley inside seven minutes. Mile Jedinak converted a second penalty of the tournament after the VAR intervened for a handball in the box. Both teams fashioned chances to take the lead but neither could put the ball away and meant honours were even. The result was Australia’s first points at the world’s biggest sporting event since 2010, coming in a 2-1 win over Serbia.
