Jurman stunned by 'crazy' Caltex Socceroos rise

Caltex Socceroos defender Matt Jurman admits even he's surprised by his rapid rise from spectator to potential FIFA World Cup starter in the space of a month.

The 27-year-old has timed his run into the national team to perfection, starting in all four of Australia make-or-break playoffs against Syria and Honduras.

And the former Sydney FC man could be set to reap the rewards after Wednesday's win at Stadium Australia put him firmly in the frame for a ticket to Russia 2018.

"I thought I would be watching the boys [from home]," Jurman told Fox Sports.

"To be in my second camp and hopefully going to a World Cup, it's unbelievable.

The Suwon Bluewings defender has immediately adapted to international football.

"All of the boys have been great since I've come in and it's great to see everyone get the rewards today.

"To be part of the last few games is really amazing. It's a lot to take in.

"Just walking out before the game, the national anthem, and now winning the game, it's all crazy and probably won't sink in for a few weeks."
