Socceroos Abroad: Irvine & Goodwin assist, Ryan earns clean sheet, Socceroos returns from injury

Socceroos abroad made a strong return to club football as the title battles in England and Germany begin to heat up. 

Elsewhere, there was a clean sheet in the Netherlands, while there were also goal contributions in Asia.

In Eredivisie, Maty Ryan (cap #555) kept a clean sheet in goal for AZ Alkmaar on Sunday as they downed Vitesse 2-0.

In the Saudi Pro League, Craig Goodwin (cap #562) notched an assist on Sunday as Al-Wehda lost 3-2 to Al Fateh. 

Jackson Irvine (cap #568) picked up an assist in St Pauli’s 2-1 win against Paderborn on Monday morning in 2. Bundesliga. Connor Metcalfe (cap #611) also played 83 minutes for the league leaders.

Alex Gersbach (cap #587) made his Kalmar FF debut, playing from the 58th minute of their 3-1 loss to Hammarby on the opening day of the Swedish Allsvenskan.

Dimitri Petratos (cap #593) played all of Mohun Bagan’s 3-2 defeat to Chenaiyin on Monday in the Indian Super League, scoring a stoppage-time penalty. Jason Cummings (cap #626) came on in the 81st minute for the side.

On Saturday morning, in the EFL Championship, Massimo Luongo (cap #571) was a standout for Ipswich Town as they downed Blackburn Rovers 1-0. Luongo completed 45 of his 48 passes and created two chances. Cameron Burgess (cap #633) came on in the 90th minute for the side. The pair played again on Tuesday morning in Ipswich’s dramatic 3-2 win over Southampton. Luongo played for an hour while Burgess got through the entire match.

Elsewhere in the competition, Samuel Silvera (cap #634) played the final 15 minutes of Middlesbrough’s late 1-1 draw with Southampton on Saturday morning. The winger got some more game time on Tuesday morning when MIddlesbrough beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0.

Ryan Strain (cap #624) made his return from injury for St Mirren on Sunday, playing the first half of their 1-1 draw with Motherwell. Keanu Baccus (cap #628) played from the hour mark for St Mirren.

Kusini Yengi (cap #638) came on in the 81st minute of Portsmouth’s 3-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers in the EFL League One on Saturday morning.

James Holland (cap #508) remained on the bench for Austria Wien’s 0-0 draw with BW Linz on Saturday morning in the Austrian Bundesliga.

Mitchell Duke (cap #559) was a stoppage-time substitute in Machida Zelvia’s 3-1 win against Sagan Tosu on Saturday, which saw the side remain top of the J. League.

Also in Japan’s top flight on Saturday, Mitchell Langerak (cap #566) was the goalkeeper for Nagoya Grampus as they edged past Yokohoma FM 2-1.

Mohamed Toure (cap #636) came on in the 88th minute of Paris FC’s 3-3 with Bordeaux in Ligue 2 on Sunday morning.

In the Scottish Premiership, Olyroo Nectarios Triantis played an hour for Hibernian in their 3-1 loss to Rangers on Sunday, picking up a caution. Martin Boyle (cap #599) also made his return from a concussion in the 70th minute for Hibs.

As well in the competition on Sunday, Kye Rowles (cap #622) and Cameron Devlin (cap #625) came off the bench in the 71st minute of Hearts’ 1-1 draw with Kilmarnock. Nathaniel Atkinson (cap #620) in the 80th minute for the side as well.

Ryan McGowan (cap #546) was booked playing a full game for St Johnstone, with the side going down 2-1 on Sunday against Dundee FC.

Dylan McGowan (cap #590) helped keep a clean sheet for Hamilton Academical in their 0-0 draw with Queen of the South on Sunday morning in Scotland’s League One. 

Ajdin Hrustic (cap #589) managed to recover from his injury on international duty to play 84 minutes for Heracles as they were defeated by FC Twente on Monday in the Eredivisie.

Kenny Dougall (cap #608) played a full game for Buriram United as they got past Chiangrai United 2-1 on Monday in the Thai League.

In France’s Ligue 1, Denis Genreau (cap #610) returned to the bench for Toulouse’s 3-0 away win against Clermont Foot on Monday. 

In 2. Bundesliga, John Iredale (cap #640) came on in the 74th minute for Wehen Wiesbaden in their 1-0 loss to VfL Osnabruck on Monday.

Patrick Yazbek (cap #641) played 70 minutes for Viking on Tuesday morning as they won 1-0 against Sarpsborg 08 in Norway’s Eliteserien. Nick D’Agostino (cap #621) came on in the 85th minute for Viking as well.

Alessandro Circati (cap #637) played a full game for Parma in their 2-0 defeat to Catanzaro on Tuesday morning in Serie B.

Alexandar Popovic played a full game for Gwangju FC as they fell 2-1 to Daegu FC in the K-League 1 on Sunday night.

As mentioned above, Nectarios Triantis played an hour Hibernian in their 3-1 defeat to Rangers in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

In EFL League One, Nicholas Bilokapic remained on the bench for Peterborough's 3-1 loss to Carlisle United on Saturday and their 2-1 win over Leyton Orient on Tuesday.
