Devlin delight! Socceroos midfielder scores brace to send Hearts into Conference League playoff round

Subway Socceroos midfielder Cammy Devlin was delighted after playing an instrumental role in Heart of Midlothian's progression to the UEFA Europa Conference playoff round.

The 25-year-old scored a second-half brace as Hearts came from behind to defeat Norwegian club Rosenborg 3-1 and 4-3 on aggregate in the second qualifying round.

Having put the Edinburgh side ahead, Devlin proceeded to score a 92nd minute clincher to avoid extra-time and book the Jam Tarts passage to the next phase and a meeting with Greek outfit PAOK next week.

The two goals from the industrious midfielder have already equaled his overall tally from last season and Devlin was thrilled to be able to contribute.

"I'm buzzing," Devlin told Hearts TV after the match.

"Obviously such a special night we knew it was going to be tough.

"... I think that is fair to say I don't score many. The boys were just asking me, 'have you ever scored two before?'.

"And I said absolutely not, I've barely scored two in my career."

But it did not all go to plan initially after conceding inside five minutes to fall behind 3-1 on aggregate.

Devlin insisted their fightback was a testament to the belief instilled in the squad, while crediting the fans at Tynecastle Park for their incredible support.

"But it shows the character and resilience that we've got within this squad and it's been drilled into us and I think it showed tonight," he said.

"The fans created a special atmosphere, and it’s nights like these that we thrive off.

"I talked yesterday about how patience was going to be the key word, and that’s what it took tonight."

Fellow Subway Socceroos Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson also played full games in the win.

Next up for the Subway Socceroos trio and Olyroo Calem Nieuwenhof is a Scottish League Cup clash with Partick Thistle on Sunday at 11pm (AEST).
