China confirm host cities for 2023 AFC Asian Cup

The Chinese Football Association (CFA) have confirmed the 10 host cities for the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

China were confirmed as hosts for the 2023 tournament in June after the only other bidder – Korea Republic – withdrew from the race to focus on their bid for the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The CFA confirmed the cities to the Organising Committee of the Asian Cup (OCAC).

The cities to host matches at the 2023 AFC Asian Cup include: Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing, Chengdu, Xi'an, Dalian, Qingdao, Xiamen and Suzhou.

“The AFC Asian Cup is our flagship competition for national teams, and I am sure that the Chinese FA and the selected host cities will deliver a tournament which is in keeping with the event’s world-class status,” AFC President, HE Shaikh Salman bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa said.

“The AFC thanks the commitment shown by the CFA and these 10 great cities to be a part of this celebration of Asian football.

“I wish them all the very best of success in their desire to show the world that China PR can stage huge international football events.”

This will be the second time China – who were quarter finalists at the 2019 tournament – will host the AFC Asian Cup, having previously staged the tournament in 2004.

In that year China made the final – their best-ever result at the AFC Asian Cup – losing to Japan 3-1.

Qatar are the current AFC Asian Cup holders after defeating the Samurai Blue 3-1 in the final last January in the UAE.
