Boyle shares injury update after knee surgery
Socceroos winger Martin Boyle will spend the rest of the season on the sideline after undergoing knee surgery in Scotland.
Boyle, 25, sustained the injury late in the 5-0 friendly win over Oman in December and was forced to withdraw from Australia’s squad for AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019™.
The Hibernian flyer had impressed during his fledgling international career, scoring twice against Lebanon on his starting debut in November.
“Gutted to learn my season is over but the operation was a success and was the best solution for me to extend my playing career over time,” Boyle wrote on Instagram.
“Will do everything I can to come back fitter & stronger and continue to help the team on the field. Thanks for all your messages, they’re much appreciated!!”
Boyle scored four times in 18 appearances in the Scottish Premiership prior to his injury.
Graham Arnold called up Apostolos Giannou as his replacement and the AEK Larnaca striker could come into contention when the Socceroos meet Palestine at 10:00pm (AEDT) on Friday night.
