Bos fulfils childhood dream after Socceroos debut

When Jordan Bos' name was called in the 54th minute against Ecuador at Marvel Stadium by Graham Arnold, the young defender realised a lifelong dream.

At just 20 years old, Bos became the 632nd player to represent the Subway Socceroos, joining an exclusive and distinguished club.

The dynamic left-back was selected for the March camp by Arnold following his sensational form with Melbourne City, where he has taken his game to new heights this season.

It has been a meteoric rise for the Hoppers Crossing junior.

His performances culminated with a maiden senior call-up and certainly just reward for his efforts.

Bos was struggling to find the words following the match, which Australia succumbed to a 2-1 defeat, still absorbing everything only minutes after the full-time whistle blew.

The emotions were quite raw as he began to process what he had just accomplished, made extra special in his hometown of Melbourne.

"It's amazing, a massive honour so just glad that I got out there and I made my cap," Bos told Socceroos.com.au.

"It's been great getting around the boys, 10 day camp, didn't get on last game (in Sydney), but this is great in front of my friends and family so just just glad that I got on."

Now Bos is an inspiration for the next generation of aspiring footballers, just as he admired his heroes not that long ago.

"I remember when I was a kid, I used to draw pictures of the Socceroos on paper, it's amazing to be one of them now," Bos eloquently said, still coming to the realisation of his achievement.

It was a 'pinch yourself kind of moment' for the youngster, who could not wipe the smile off his face.

Many have touted the promising full-back as the eventual heir to Aziz Behich and it is quite comprehensible to see why.

Bos possesses excellent speed and technical quality on the ball and is known for his marauding runs forward.

A supreme, powerful athlete, Bos further boasts strong defensive attributes something which often is forgotten about, given what he offers in the attacking phase.

So far in 2022/23, he has one goal and four assists and reports have suggested a move abroad could be a possibility at the end of the campaign.

It would not come as a surprise if a transfer materialised, with the young defender also dislodging captain Scott Jamieson from the left-back position due to his consistent displays.

Against Ecuador we saw glimpses of his potential and if he continues on this trajectory, Bos could become a mainstay within the Socceroos set-up for years to come.

Bos embraced the challenge after being introduced midway through the second half.

"Great opposition, very technical, physical," Bos reflected.

"It was a good challenge for me and good learning curve as well... I hope there's many more (caps) to come, I'm excited."

Equally, for Green and Gold supporters, it is hard not to be excited as well.
