"The ball just fell to me" - Jordan Bos' reaction to first Subway Socceroos goal

Jordan Bos Asian Cup debut could not have started any better, with the second half substitute scoring 30 seconds after being brought on against India.

The 21-year-old full-back was brought on to the field at the 72nd minute, with the match tightly poised at a 1-0 scoreline, in favour of the team in green and gold. With the pressure of playing at your first major tournament, the expectations for Bos were surely to make your passes, stay calm, and leave the Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium with all three points.

Deployed further forward as almost a de-facto winger, Bos would never had expected to find himself scoring his first ever goal for the Subway Socceroos, let alone achieving this less than a minute after arriving onto the field.

"Look, I was just jogging on. I don't think I even sprinted before then. I wasn't really set into the game yet."

And then, all of a sudden, the ball just fell to me in the box. I'll take it, aye!

The passage leading up to the goal highlighted Australia's dominance in the latter stages of the clash, with Riley McGree, who had also been brought on from the bench, dribbling past several tired Indian defenders before crossing the ball to Bos, who had timed his back post run to perfection.

Coach Graham Arnold had reiterated pre-match, that his side are hungry to be successful, and with the weapons at his disposal on the bench, mixed in with an extremely fit Starting XI, it was no surpise to see the Australians take control the longer the game went on.

"I think most of the game they were really deep and still making it hard for us to score. I feel like we had the opportunities and the chances we just couldn't get it into the back of the net."

"But that came a bit easier in the second half and hopefully now we have gotten the cobwebs out a little bit, leading into the rest of the campaign."

Australia's attack in the second half possessed a Melbourne City flavour, with City academy graduate Bos, finding the cross of former teammate McGree, while also linking with ex-City turned Victory striker Bruno Fornaroli on a number of occasions.

That coherency built playing club football together, is crucial within a national team environment, where there is limited time to gel and build partnerships with your teammates.

"When those boys get in those positions, I know what's easy for them as well. I just try to get in that position and fortunately, it felt to me."

"The ball was on the other side the whole time I was on, so then I'd just thought I'd go down the line, and snag one."

Having now established himself both in Belgium, and within the Subway Socceroos' set-up, Jordan Bos says his focus will quickly shift off this moment, with another important challenge coming up in four days time.

"I try not to dwell on it too much. To be honest, I feel like everything that I do in football, it just happens. And then maybe later in life, I'll reflect a bit more. But right now I'm just taking it in my stride."
