Australia U-23's Keanu Baccus focused on big A-League season ahead of Olympics

Another big season is on the horizon for Keanu Baccus and his Western Sydney Wanderers as they prepare for a new era under the guidance of Carl Robinson.

The Western Sydney Wanderers midfielder is hoping to kick off where he left off last season as he prepares to star under Robinson and push for selection in the Olyroos squad for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

“It’s a massive year for me with things like the Olympics coming up and obviously a lot action around FFA,” Baccus said.

“With a new gaffer coming in, I want an amazing season for not just me personally but for the whole team and club and for the fans, I think they all deserve it.”

The Wanderers have been settling in well to life under Robinson and are in the final stages of preseason ahead of the start of the A-League season next month.

“We’ve been working hard; everyone needs to get fit. We’ve started to play matches now so match fitness will come into it and we’re going to shape up well this season,” he said.

The 22-year-old believes that he and his side have adapted well to Robinson’s coaching style.

“His attention to detail is very good. He makes sure everyone’s role is set and everyone knows what they’re doing on the pitch which is good for us because we’re players that need to know what to do,”

“If we’re told what to do, we’ll do well and win games.”

They commence their season with a blockbuster clash against A-League newcomers Macarthur FC in just over a month’s time and Baccus is confident that they will be ready to go come that evening.

“Can’t wait for the season to start. December 27, we’re all working hard and getting fit and we’re going to be ready to go come that date.”
