Australian U-23 selection record training match win in Doha

An Australian U-23 national team selection recorded a 2-0 win in a training match against Qatari Second Division side Lusail Club late last week as part of the Australia’s ongoing preparations for the AFC U-23 Championship Thailand 2020.

The squad, who are spending the October FIFA window training in Doha, played Lusail Club at the Aspire Academy, and despite never having played together prior the team put in a solid display against their local opponents.

Ben Folami, Panos Armenakas, Alex Gersbach, and John Iredale tested the Lusail Club custodian in the first 45, before Melbourne City midfielder Denis Genreau opened the scoring with a superb dipping free-kick 15 minutes from full time.

Late on, VfL Wolfsburg II attacker John Iredale doubled Australia’s advantage after collecting a defence splitting pass.

The Australian U-23 selection assembled in Doha will play another match against IR Iran on Monday evening as the squad’s time in Qatar comes to a close.
