Australia's U-23s have learned their group stage opposition for January's 2020 AFC U-23 Championship in Thailand.

The draw was conducted on Thursday evening (AEST) at the Rama Gardens Hotel in Bangkok.

Australia were drawn in group A, where they will face Bahrain, Iraq and Thailand.

The 16 nations competing at the tournament were pooled into four groups of four teams each.

The top three teams at the tournament will earn the right to join host nation Japan as Asia's representatives at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Australia last qualified for the men’s football event at the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008.
