Aussies Abroad Wrap: Strain scores first professional goal with a stunning free-kick

Ryan Strain scored a fantastic free-kick to level the scores in St Mirren's 3-2 loss against Ross County while Kye Rowles returned from injury with a cameo off the bench.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, Ryan Strain played 90 minutes and scored a superb free-kick as St Mirren lost 3-2 against Ross County in the Scottish Premiership on Sunday.

Strain raised eyebrows when he lined up a free-kick from 30 yards out but he expertly lifted the ball over the wall and curled it into the top corner to grab a 10th-minute equaliser and his first professional goal. 


Keanu Baccus also started and played 90 minutes. 

Elsewhere in Scotland, Aziz Behich played another 90 minutes and registered an assist as Dundee United lost 4-2 against Celtic on Sunday in the Scottish Premiership. Dundee United remain in last place on the table.

Aaron Mooy was an unused substitute. 

Cameron Devlin started and played 90 minutes while Nathaniel Atkinson came on in the 77th minute and Kye Rowles made a 90 minute return from injury with a cameo off the bench as Heart of Midlothian beat Motherwell 3-2 on Monday.

In England, Riley McGree started and played a full game as Middlesbrough drew 1-1 against Bristol City in the Championship on Sunday.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Kenny Dougall started and played a full game as Blackpool lost 1-0 against Luton Town on Sunday.

Bailey Wright also started and played a full game as Sunderland lost 0-1 against Cardiff on Sunday while Tom Rogic was also an unused substitute as West Brom defeated QPR 1-0 on Sunday.

In injury news, Harry Souttar was an unused sub as Stoke City lost 1-2 against Birmingham City in the Championship on Sunday.

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic featured on the bench as Huddersfield lost 1-0 to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship on Sunday. 

In League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was an unused substitute as Salford City drew 0-0 with Peterborough in the FA Cup First Round on Sunday.

Lachlan Brook started and played 90 minutes in the FA Cup First Round as Crewe Alexandra beat Leyton Orient 1-0 on Sunday.

Europe

Starting in Germany, where Jackson Irvine started and played a full game as St Pauli lost 1-0 against Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Bundesliga 2 on Saturday. Connor Metcalfe started on the bench but came on in the 70th minute.

In Belgium, Jason Davidson started and played another 90 minutes as K.A.S. Eupen secured a big 2-0 win against Standard de Liège on Sunday. The victory lifts K.A.S. Eupen to 14th in the Belgian First Division A.


In France, Denis Genreau was an unused substitute as Toulouse FC lost 2-0 to Monaco on Monday. Toulouse currently sit in 12th on the Ligue 1 table. 

In Denmark, Joel King was an unused substitute as Odense Boldklub drew 1-1 with Brøndby IF on Monday.

In Serie B, Fran Karačić started and played 90 minutes as Brescia Calcio drew 1-1 with Ascoli on Saturday. Brescia currently sit in eighth position and are seven points off the top.

In Spain, Awer Mabil was an unused sub as Cádiz drew 0-0 away from home against Getafe in La Liga on Sunday. Cádiz are still in the relegation zone but only by goal difference.

In Croatia, Tyrese Francois started and played 90 mins as HNK Gorica lost 1-0 against NK Istra in the Croatian Football League.

Asia

In the J1 League, Mitch Langerak kept a clean sheet for Nagoya Grampus to close out the season with a 1-0 win over Cerezo Osaka on Saturday.

  • In Germany, John Iredale scored and played until half time as SV Wehen Wiesbaden defeated SV Meppen 3-0 away from home   in the 3. Liga.
  • In France, Alex Gersbach started and played 90 minutes as Grenoble FC beat Rodez 1-0 on Sunday in  Ligue 2.
  • In Croatia, Deni Juric came off the bench in the 59th minute as HNK Gorica lost 1-0 to Istra 1961 on Saturday in the Croatian Football League.

United Kingdom

  • In Scotland, Mark Birighitti lined up in goal again as Dundee United lost 4-2 against Celtic on Sunday.
  • In England, Caleb Watts came on in the 76th minute as Morecambe lost 2-0 against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday in FA Cup First Round action.
  • Elsewhere in the FA Cup First Round, Jack Iredale started and played 90 minutes as Bolton Wanderers lost 2-1 against Barnsley on Sunday.
