Aussies Abroad: Kye Rowles returns from injury

Subway Socceroos centre-back Kye Rowles marked his return from injury with a substitute appearance for Heart of Midlothian overnight.

The Australian defender was introduced off the bench in the closing stages of Hearts' epic 3-2 win over Motherwell on Sunday night.

It was his first appearance since August 28, after fracturing his metatarsal in the process of scoring against St. Johnstone.

"It was great to be back out there with all of the boys," Rowles told Hearts TV.

"I was lucky enough to get out there and put in a bit of an effort to get us across the line."

Rowles both made his international debut and starred during June's crucial FIFA World Cup play-offs, beforing enjoyed a strong start to life in Scotland.

Having now overcome his first injury obstacle since arriving from the Central Coast Mariners, the defender is determined to pick up where he left off for club and country.

"It felt that way (like he'd never been away), and it gives myself confidence that I can get through some minutes, so hopefully there's a few more minutes to come this week as well.

"I'm going to keep working on training on that sharpness, but every day I'll keep getting better and that's the goal."

Rowles' return came days after fellow Subway Socceroos defender Harry Souttar appeared in a matchday squad for the first time in 12 months, being named amongst the substitutes during Stoke City's 2-0 defeat to Birmingham.
