Aussies Abroad Wrap: Mooy stars in big Celtic win, Behich & Devlin assist

It was another big few days of festive Aussies Abroad action as Aaron Mooy put in an outstanding performance on his starting line up return, while Aziz Behich and Cameron Devlin also registered assists.

United Kingdom

Starting in Scotland, Aaron Mooy started, played 69 minutes and registered an assist in Celtic's 4-1 win over St. Johnstone on Saturday.


In his return to the starting line up for the first time since his World Cup heroics, Mooy laid the ball off to Reo Hatate on the edge of the area, who lashed the ball home for Celtic's opener in the 14th minute.

The Socceroos midfielder was also involved in the Hoops’ third goal with a defence-splitting dinked pass for James Forrest to set up Kyogo’s finish. It was one of three key passes that Mooy produced from his 88 touches, having also enjoyed an 88% pass accuracy rate to help seal Celtic’s 11th consecutive league win. 

Ryan McGowan also started and played 90 minutes in the match.

Aziz Behich also started, played 89 minutes and registered an assist in Dundee United's 2-2 draw against Cameron Devlin, Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson's Heart of Midlothian on Sunday

Behich produced a first-time lob from inside his own half that fell into the path of Steven Fletcher, who slotted the ball into the net with the help of a deflection off Rowles to open the scoring for United in the 20th minute. 

Meanwhile, Devlin started, played 77 minutes and also assisted Hearts' first equaliser with a through ball that Michael Smith cooly dispatched four minutes from half time. 

Rowles came off the bench in the sixth minute after Craig Halkett succumbed to an early injury while Atkinson was an unused substitute.

Mark Birighitti also started in goal for Dundee United. 

Elsewhere in Scotland, Keanu Baccus also started and played 90 minutes alongside Ryan Strain in St Mirren's 3-1 win over Aberdeen on Saturday.


In England, Harry Souttar started and played 90 minutes as Stoke City drew 2-2 with Rotherham on Tuesday to extend Stoke's unbeaten run to three matches.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Riley McGree came off the bench in the 62nd minute as Middlesbrough thumped Wigan Athletic 4-1 on Tuesday.

Bailey Wright also came off the bench in the 79th minute as Sunderland beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 on Monday.  

In Olyroos Abroad news, goalkeeper Nick Bilokapic was an unused substitute as Huddersfield beat Preston 2-1 on Tuesday.

In League Two, goalkeeper Jacob Chapman was also an unused substitute as Salford City drew 1-1 with Barrow on Tuesday.

Elsewhere in League two, Lachlan Brook came off the bench in the 64th minute as Crewe Alexandra lost 2-0 against Stockport on Tuesday. 

Europe

Ajdin Hrustic started in Hellas Verona's 1-0 loss against Bologna F.C. 1909 in a club friendly on Friday ahead of the Serie A return on January 5.
